Whoooo, as of o needed even more reasons to step away from Google?

I feel more and more that in becoming a luddite when it comes to phones and such, which is weird for a developer, i guess

I want to use the phone as a tool, make calls, send emails, watch some videos sometimes, not be a data harvesting machine

Theoretically, how hard would it be to port Android apps to a Linux phone distro (disregarding that closed source apps simply wouldn’t get ported without a meaningful market share)? Or to make a sort of Android compatibility layer for Linux phone?

I feel like Google and Microsoft are speedrunning the enshittification, which is great because it will make it easier to convince EU lawmakers that they need to be stopped and or replaced. If they had continued slowly boiling us, then this would have become much harder.

It’s funny that MS’s push for Windows 11 is just pushing people away to Linux.

There’s a microscopic chance they accidentally make it better because for the last 10+ years it’s hard to find apps even when you know the name and publisher.

I have mostly relied on third party sites where you can filter for apps without ads, or even better use F-Droid.

Had to install play store a couple days ago to get a banking app. If I spent 5 more mins doing that, I would have gotten a seizure from the amount of ads and garbage on that. It feels almost illegal and surprising how many people seem perfectly fine with that.

They will never, ever, let you filter out everything that has ads or costs money. Their AI will never be that smart.

To make it easier to identify and avoid apps with ai, right?

Like GMO labling at grocery stores?
