True for Android, iOS, and Windows. Linux is pretty good to go though with good opsec. Something like Debian with full disk encryption, and only FOSS software installed using DNSCrypt, and an encrypted VPN that blocks all non-VPN traffic is about as good as you’ll ever need. And is still a very functional computer. For a browser just make sure to use something like Librewolf, and not Google Chrome.

On a phone your best bet is gonna be Graphene OS and for messaging you can use Briar, or Matrix. Don’t put a SIM card in it, and keep a seperate phone to do calls and texts. At that point your more secure than most high profile people even.

It’s wild. I remember a younger gen z tell me (their tutor) that they had cheated on online university exams during COVID on WhatsApp. More secure than text messaging (end to end encryption) at least, but I made sure that they deleted the messages for everyone so I wouldn’t be forced to snitch.

No, unless you think them receiving funding between 2012-2016 through the Open Technology Fund (which is a nonprofit that receives/received grants from the federal United States Agency for Global Media) means they are ‘compromised’ lol.

Anyways I’d argue that if you’re worried about the US government compromising an E2E encrypted messaging app, you probably should be more worried about the fact that every telecomm company in the US is more than willing to bend over backwards and provide the US government with open access to every message/piece of data that is sent through their towers without needing any legal reason to do so, whereas Signal can only provide the telephone number associated with an account in response to a warrant because they literally don’t have anything else.

Ok if you’re worried about your “love” maybe don’t fucking murder someone and then indirectly implicate them in your crime by immediately messaging them and admitting it. Maybe skip the whole murdering part tbh. I dunno.

That sentence just comes off crazy to me. “I’m worried about you. Oh btw, let me confess all this shit so you’re now obligated to snitch on me to police otherwise you’re committing a pretty serious crime. I’m sure they and the media will be very normal and treat you as an innocent bystander to all this.”

People talk about trauma dumping, but goddamn. This is criminal (heh) levels. I feel bad for this person.

Long answer short: This is what lawyers are for. Anything you say to police except “i want a lawyer” can AND WILL be used against you. You are absolutely not obligated to tell the police anything. However, when you get a lawyer, and they see that the police have enough to charge you as an accomplice, then you’ll be advised to tell the police what you know (through the lawyer or in court).

Anything besides getting a lawyer and cooperating with the investigation via the lawyer would probably result in getting charges. FOr example, say they did delete messages. That could get charges. Say they tell a lie after being caught off-guard (no, he didn’t tell me anything). That’s a charge. Maybe they misspeak and accidentally say something even more incriminating (“i mean neither of us liked Kirk, but…”) that’s a charge.

IMO “snitching” is different when done with a lawyer, since at least you’re protecting yourself. Snitching without a lawyer just puts everyone in danger, including yourself. What @Justice@lemmygrad.ml was saying is that if the roommate was left totally in the dark, then they could truthfully answer (through their lawyer or on the stand) that they had no knowledge of the crime. But now that there’s concrete proof of their knowledge, any lawyer will advise them to cooperate in order to avoid charges.

          Yeah, all of this.

I will add I was also referring to like “harboring” a suspect, but that may not even apply. Maybe it’s more “obstructing justice” I don’t know how these work for this scenario.

I can guess that if someone texts you they murdered someone and tells you plans for a getaway or whatever, you do nothing with that information, and later the person is captured and the messages discovered… you’re gonna have a “not good” time.

It would be one thing I think to be generally aware of the murder either through some sort of witnessing of it (guy running away from the scene) or they confess to you verbally in person at some point.

It’s a bit different I think when it’s during the “manhunt” stage and the guy is directly contacting you with information such as they did it, how they did it, where they are currently located, etc. At the absolute least cops are gonna be digging into your entire life to find out why you were contacted and why you didn’t report them to police immediately. That’s just common sense on their end. And that investigation and possible (because I’m not sure) charges is what I meant. You’re subjecting a totally outside person to the authorities. Whether or not anything happens legally from it, you’re gonna have to get a lawyer and deal with years of shit when you could have honestly said “He never mentioned it to me ever” otherwise.

Of course just the circumstances of being the roommate basically guarantees they were going to investigated the moment he decided to actually do this… but yeah.

So I’m guessing he was struggling with a lot of residual guilt and shame of being raised in a conservative MAGA family, while being in a relationship with a transitioning partner, and it negatively effected his sense of self-worth. Probably just went “fuck it” when he found out the worlds most obnoxious conservative twit was going to visit.

That’s always been the plan. There’s a major incident of violence every month in this country. They’ve just been waiting for one they can spin as part of an antifa plot or some bullshit. Part of the reason they are going nuts with ICE raids and occupying cities with the military is to provoke a violent response.

If the political opposition had any backbone they would copy the response the right always makes whenever another school get shot up. “Just because one irresponsible gun owner does something bad, doesn’t mean all gun owners are bad” type shit. But they hate the left, so they will go along with it. Biden started going the way of political repression and free speech restrictions with the the anti-genocide protests.

          This country is fucked.

If you don’t piss off the nazis already indirectly genociding and legislating you into nonexistence (Florida is the vanguard for that, under certain easily met conditions you can end up getting the death penalty simply for being trans in the wrong place) then the nazis won’t keep doing that.

You’re right that this will definitely cause a major backlash but at the same time the implication that possibly fed up or unhinged partners, friends, relatives, allies may randomly and unpredictably pick up guns and start taking out these 2010s era GOP shock jocks and trolls (they all received funding from GOP billionaires pretty early) can be a deterrent. It used to be common sense that you can’t be publicly incendiary and an extremist agitator against marginalized minorities unless you had damn good security.

Kirk etc all started as rage porn creators owning libs, triggering the libs etc and were begging for over the top reactions to get views. Charlie just peaked at his game.

Adventurism, I agree, probably not a great tactic or strategy. If for no other reason that, an adventurist that has relatives or close friends, there won’t be a militant support network that can offer some physical protection against retaliatory violence.

But this guy didn’t trigger the right wing pogroms against people who happen to be transgender. That’s already been going on, and it wouldn’t be less of a pogrom against the transgender community as whole or individuals specifically if he didn’t end Charlie Kirk’s life.

Any act of resistance to the pogroms, whether adventurist violence or attempts at peaceful non-violent education of the masses, are pretty much always categorized as an existential threat to the right wing project and given the same “its the end of the world!” treatment by the fascists.

And the simple … beauty… of the situation is that all the fascists have to do is wait a bit for any push back against them to happen. I don’t think its an issue of “not thinking it through for a second.” When the right wing keeps doing really bad things long enough and somebody, somewhere, is going to think, “Welp, I guess I’m supposed to do something and I’ve got access to a gun and a member of the fascists is going to be sitting out in a public place in a week… so… I guess that’s something I could do.”

    Fuck.

The facts are he was allegedly bi, dating a trans person, killed Kirk for his hate, his family will corroborate he was a “loony leftist” and blame the internet and college most likely for taking their best attempt at raising a chud and turning him into the person he ended up as who disagreed with them on politics. Given he didn’t go on any rants about Jews or anything like that (the only other option being thinking Kirk hated white people for not being against the Jews enough) I think the chances are near zero he wasn’t just a liberal or vaguely left type person. Probably didn’t really have anything super concrete himself in terms of political ideology other than not wanting to be his parents, not agreeing with his parents and MAGA, etc which is good enough to call him a liberal/leftist unfortunately.

Nothing else really matters. This is the cold, hard, damning evidence the right needs to paint this as an assassination by a leftist. I guess we can be thankful he wasn’t a member of a communist party and it seems unlikely he organized with antifa or other groups, and he didn’t post a ton of overtly leftist political stuff for them to show around but he’ll be painted as antifa anyways (the anti-fascist song inscription on the bullet seals that) and this will be used as an example of liberal/left “intolerance” and violence against the “totally peaceable” right.

All these attempts at nuance are not strong enough and take too much thought and good faith. The right will be able to successfully blast out that he was a radicalized liberal-leftist who hated conservatives, was part of some imagined by the right “violent trans” agenda or movement they’re trying to conjure up. The likely interviews from his family where the ridiculous hogs bray about how he was a radical and changed from a good little chudlet into a crazed leftist (as defined by Fox News) will be blasted around likely by all the usual bourgeois press. The liberal conclusion will be we need to tackle “online radicalization no matter what ideology” and the right will take that and run with it to force censorship of the left on major platforms, force major platforms to feed more automated reporting data on anyone talking in too leftist a manner to the police state priority flagged, etc.

Considering what we’ve already heard of discord pro-actively giving police info on people buying t-shirts and cops calling them in a chilling effects way it’s concerning. And explains why they’re harping on the online angle so much because that’s seemingly the goal here.

They were already painting it as an assassination by a leftist minutes after he was shot and would have continued to do so no matter how much the evidence proved otherwise. The truth does not matter to these people.

Thanks for posting this with the screenshots.

Also there’s no way this is a groyper or anyone remotely on the right. As usual, Bluesky and Reddit were completely wrong. Honestly as a rule of thumb, whatever Bluesky says, the opposite is most likely true. Still remember when Bluesky were saying that Kamala Harris was going to win the election off of a single outlier poll from Iowa. Or that Trump wasn’t actually shot, or that he was dead last week. Bunch of “liberal Alex Jones” level conspiracy theorists. Also a lesson not to accept what one finds ideologically validating as true, facts first before that. Got so much nonsense for calling out this stuff, again.

Okay, he’s at least a little bit libbed up. Says Charlie Kirk spreads hate, cares about a trans person, says his dad is diehard MAGA. A groyper would only possibly say “diehard MAGA” in the context of complaining about people that won’t abandon the republican party and embrace Hitlerism, not in the context of thinking maybe his dad won’t approve of him shooting a right wing propagandist. I’m also appalled at the idea of discussing this over text messages which cops can probably literally just do a search on. Maybe it’s not quite that easy but they are not private. Computer security people do not like using 2fa over text messages because they’re not secure.

For the right, there’s not much difference between libbed up and communist. It would have been nice to pin it on groypers but that seems extremely unlikely now.

I thought there was room for him to be a trans-ally groyper yesterday, since people on the right frequently change their tune on one thing if it affects them personally and leave the rest of their ideology unquestioned. I can’t read these texts and interpret him as being on the right of anyone he mentions. Maybe something else will be revealed but the chances of him being a groyper are shrinking. And him being a groyper would only be useful if it can be proven.

How is it he complains here about his dad being “hardcore MAGA” yet in the discord messages Ken Klippenstein had, he never ever mentions this? If he took issue with it, you’d think he’d complain at least once before this or even just mention it?
