I am currently in an argument (read: flinging insults at) a bunch of lemmy idiots who are arguing that Trump is beholden to the soviets. Pointing out that government hasn’t existed in 40 years has prompted the dumbest possible response I have ever seen (“this might surprise you but trump is over 40 years old”)
Point is people who think like this are barely sentient and it honestly disturbs me they are able to drive cars and trucks legally

I’ve met plenty of boomers who forgot that they won the cold war and destroyed the lives of many millions of working people. I’m absolutely positive that Trump has also forgotten that the USSR no longer exists. It’s not impossible that he’s still carrying out his orders.

My favorite part about that conspiracy theory is that Krasnov is the name of a general who fought against the Bolsheviks during the Russian civil war and later fought against them again on the side of the Nazis. Why the KGB would choose the name of someone who was incredibly anti Soviet as a codename for someone doing their dirty work for them is a mystery.

How do these people envision economic collapse? The Russian economy surely has hardships, but what, workers will suddenly stop working? Companies will simultaneously close? Russia doesn’t have an economic bubble or anything, I’m sure it can sustain this situation for quite some time with at worst progressively degrading conditions, but what kind of collapse do they think will happen?

It’s funny, because one of the talking points among libs in the early 2010’s was about how Russia was working to make its economy more focused on their military production and more insular, so as to be able to more capably produce military needs should the country face sanctions; I think it was a byproduct of the Russo-Georgian war in 2008.
