I think you can’t put any political stuff in bios. They wouldn’t let me put “Marxist-Leninist” (in Chinese) on mine. Posts are a different story though, some may get caught by moderation but then a lot of them won’t. I’ve certainly seen my fair share of commie posting

I’m pleasantly surprised at the moderation myself, reported a few racist and unfriendly comments and most of them were taken down, plus I even got a message from XHS thanking me for reporting comments lol

If you’re located anywhere outside China it just says the country you’re in, not the city, and even for Chinese people it only shows the city they’re in if they’re located in a major one like Beijing or Shanghai (for a lot of people it just shows the province.) Idk to me it’s not a big deal if Xiaohongshu knows I’m in the Great Satan.

Yeah lol I saw some people from the US and Canada trying to pass themselves off as Chinese and being racist. Actually ridiculous. Thankfully the comments I reported got taken down.

I think it will be fine, I highly doubt Chinese posters will just roll over and let Westerners take over the app and completely change it. Things are pretty hectic rn but I’ll wait to see how things settle down.

Yeah, xhs does have some problems when it comes to casual bigotry and unchallenged reactionary biases. I actually hope that the leftist stuff on American social media like being against casual colorism and fatphobia bleeds over.

Edit: removed “cultural left” and the quotes because that implies that the issues of fatphobia and colorism don’t materially harm people, which they do on a daily basis. I shouldn’t have trivialized the issues like that.

Edit 2: I don’t want to imply that Chinese social media is uniquely bad about any of those issues, transphobia/colorism/fatphobia are rampant on Western social media and also I tend to find that Chinese social media is a lot… nicer? Like people generally won’t go onto a post just to post something transphobic like they might on Instagram, and you don’t have open fascists running around propagandizing.

Just saw a post by an American asking to see photos of Chinese cities and Chinese ppl in the comments were sending photos. Super fun!

Fat comrades, I have a question to ask: I have so far left up the fatphobic comments because I thought that it might be useful for uninformed people to see these arguments get debunked and to see exactly what our counterarguments are addressing. However I also realize that this is much more distressing for you all than it is for me and I recognize I have thin privilege here. Please let me know if you believe we should take the comments down and if you have ideas for any other mod actions you think we should take to combat the pervasive anti-fatness issue on hexbear.
