Aside from the simple fact that fascists hate all art (and everything and everyone, really) that doesn’t hew to their narrow prejudices, I expect that a lot of the problem is that, as opposed to his cronies in the prison industry or the private school industry, none of the recipients of art funding pay him kickbacks.

      fascists hate all art

Bullshit. They absolutely love propaganda and co-opting existing symbology to unite their supporters and exclude the out groups they use to fan the flames of hatred.

They do hate all art that doesn’t support their mission though.

Um… yes. That’s pretty much what I actually said.

Did the parenthetical bit confuse you?

It seemed to be about things, other than art (and broke up the sentence) in a way that the part after the parenthesis, seemed to be talking about something, other than art.

This is a reply with a similar confusing sentence structure.

Ol’ Ronnie is about to find out that you can’t really stop artists from making art, but you can encourage them to make art elsewhere where it’s profitable, and you can also significantly increase the likelihood that said art depicts him getting swirlied in a porta-potty.

That’ll stop the roaming midnight gangs of theater kids that plague the city with their catchy choreographed singing muggings

Economic studies have shown that every $1 spent on arts and culture programs generates about $9 more in related spending.

Leave it to Republicans to cut off their nose to spite their face.

I would like it if we could make the wealthy assholes from states like Massachusetts who chose to change their “residence” to Florida but continue to live in Massachusetts to actually be forced to live where their primary residence is.

Instead, they just make a paperwork change to pay less taxes in blue states, vacation away from the rabble in their states of “primary residence,” and go right back to living in the states where the policies they supposedly dislike fund the culture and political climate they actually enjoy.

We call these people “snowbirds” where I’m from.

You also missed the part where they vote to prevent any additional funding for education and other services in the communities where their summer houses are because it would increase their taxes.

It is the first time that no money will be allocated for arts and culture programs by the state.

Republicans are well on the way to building their dream theocratic wasteland.

Are they eventually going to bring back stoning?

In order to pocket it. He signed a budget deal that his wife got the lion’s share to the tune of over a hundred million. He’s for sure an anti woke christofascist that wants to harm a large number of people, but he’s also greedy as all hell. Anything he can defund by screaming “woke!” at it is more funds he can redirect to his cronies and his pockets. He’s playing his voters for fools and the rest of us are forced to deal as best we can.

I also doubt very seriously that this state will have a trustworthy election. He’s installed hick ass yes men all through our state government. I’m willing to bet Florida comes up deep red, but it won’t be accurate. This state is corrupt as fuck. It deserves the coming storms.

It’s because he’s about as sophisticated as linoleum from the 70s. Look, it’s fine to have less personality than drywall, but that doesn’t mean you should take away everyone else’s paint.

$90 million would’ve been impressive and would’ve rivaled what New York does.

California only does about $30m, and Texas is around $15m. I guess Ron wants Florida to be in last place among the biggest states.
