I’ve been rewatching my favorites (Mr. Robot, Andor, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) and I’m curious: What is your favorite show of all time? What makes that your favorite?
Like others my favorites change a lot, but having just rewatched Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood… Dude what an awesome show. Always cry at least 5 times watching it. For sure deserving of a fixed spot on any top 10s.
And one I haven’t seen anyone mention: Andor. The best Star Wars anything ever.
Ones that I deeply love to the core but wouldn’t consider comfort TV:
- Sense8
- Bojack Horseman
- Fleabag (and I will probably never watch it again tbh)
- Atlanta
- Heated Rivalry
Comfort shows:
- Heated Rivalry (ya twice)
- Law & Order: SVU (yes I know it’s copaganda but I will die for Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler and you can pry this show from my cold dead fictional-cop-loving hands)
- Red Dwarf
- Doctor Who (the RTD era)
- Dinosaurs (the criminally underrated puppet one from the 1990s that every adult needs to rewatch immediately)
Honourable mentions for me have mostly been mentioned by other commenters but Schitt’s Creek, Arrested Development, The Good Place. And one I haven’t seen in this thread yet, Resident Alien!
Better call Saul. It was the show breaking bad tried to be.
all 3 stargate series. oldtrek mostly, nutrek is just not even close, other than prodigy and lower decks, snw i find its still not good considering what other people are saying. use a different showrunner.
maybe spn although its through comprehensive videos of the seasons which fans graciously posted on youtube, mostly s1-5. inuyasha, not yashime or whatever it is, because fans made it weird, by making it a grooming situation rin+ sesshomaru. blue gender, Fullmetal alchemist, the og series. the new one is somewhat all over place. pre-disney takeover of marvel shows. gifted, runaways, AOS.
grimm might be up someones alley, it has a spn spin to it, and it ended as it should, and not dragged on forever like with supernatural.
a short series, DAMAGES, with glenn close, if you ignore the network changes that included sex scences for some reason.
medical drama: House, ER just not the last few seasons, which one of the actors became the showrunner of pitt. not any of those new ones with nobody actors i keep seeing on youtube.
bio shows, like monsters inside me.
netflix original: CASTLEVANIa, the first series one. the 2nd one is currently in limbo, as netflix sees which shows to cancel.
sandman and blood of zeus if they hadnt rushed to cancelled these series.
I was gonna say Firefly. “Objects in Space” is amazing.
But it’s Ted Lasso, since at least once in every episode it gives me some happy or sad feels and I think we all need to feel the feels.
Quantum Leap is the gold standard for me.
Runners up: Night Court, Better Call Saul, Bojack Horseman, and The Twilight Zone. Those are all shows I have rewatched multiple times.
I love Bojack so much but I know myself well enough to know that when I start a rewatch it’s time to schedule an appointment with my counsellor.
I earned these neurosis and I’m keepin’ them.
Scrubs and Hogans Heros
Doctor Who.
I think Trailer Park Boys up to the end of the Swayze Express arc
Twin Peaks. It’s one of the most original shows I’ve seen, and I think it manages to strike a perfect balance between mystery, drama, comedy, and general quirkiness. The third season in particular is a goddamn masterpiece imo. Also Dale Cooper has to be one of my all time favorite characters. It’s definitely not everyone’s cup of coffee though
The Return is thoroughly good. 💯
It’s really hard to say, there’s severance, breaking bad, generation kill, common side effects
and a lot of good tv shows out there
There will probably be a lot of recommendations for Breaking Bad, The Wire, The Sopranos, etc., and they’re all great.
One that tends to fly under the radar is The Americans, about a family of Soviet spies under deep cover in suburban DC. A top FBI counter-espionage agent moves in across the street, and they become close friends.
Great writing, acting, everything. One of the very best finales I’ve ever seen.
The Good Place, basically perfect television.
Fringe, because I find it infinitely rewatchable.
The good place is entirely fantastic, but season 1 is pure perfection.
The Sopranos
Except for the ending. I hated the ending so much that I’ve learned to write screenplays so I could write a mob show with a better ending.
I didn’t hate the ending. He knew the end was coming. They talked about what it would be like to get shot in the head. The last couple seasons were Tony and Carmella coming to terms with Tony dying/getting arrested.
Star Trek TNG. Without a doubt.
Macgyver is up there, so is Westworld.
I’m genuinely curious how you rate the seasons of Westworld, the first season is absolutely one of the best things I’ve ever watched, and I still enjoyed the second season, but it really declined from there in my opinion
I do love MacGyver! Grew up on that, Quantum Leap and Wings!
Encounter at far point is one my favorite sci-fi movies of all time.
