Some “leftists” are almost as mad that Zohran won than the libs and chuds, it’s a funny kind of synchronicity

Meanwhile all I care about is that he triggers the birth of countless more socialists and dismantles THE MOST crippling mindset among the masses “Your politics are cool, but they’re not realistic

Zohran is a blow to capitalist realism, to AIPAC, to the DNC, to leftist book club mentality, it’s a shame nobody realizes five years too late we got our wish and the door is finally open for mass radicalization, at least in New York City

Zohran is simply a wedge temporarily holding a door open, he’s not gonna trigger the big revolution all by his socdem lonesome, but he will give us room to grow and the pressure of Trump will continue to push more people towards that door Zohran’s victory has opened

This is a win for us, don’t make yourself immune from ever recognizing victory conditions

Nah, this isn’t a victory for socialists in particular, at least not until his eventual total failure to be able to ameliorate conditions for working people gives us the opportunity to radicalise people more.

People really need to learn that “support whatever makes chuds angry” isn’t really a coherent political strategy.

Will be nice if some struggling working people in new York get fed. But can people please stop overselling this as some immense victory for socialism lol. The guy took time out of his speech to talk about “working with the cops” and “fighting the scourge of antisemitism” ffs. Mfers really just hear someone quote Debs and turn their brains off for the next twenty minutes. It’s all spectacle for you folks.

A million people in New York City just voted for a man they believe is a socialist, this is absolutely a victory for socialists, people are being radicalized right now and you’re missing the boat completely and daydreaming about a future boat that’s supposedly gonna come along when the elites sink this one

At this point it’s literally the leftist version of “wait for a better political climate”

The guy took time out of his speech to talk about “working with the cops” and “fighting the scourge of antisemitism” ffs

Is everyone on this site just completely allergic to good rhetoric and the concept of leftist dogwhistles, what exactly did you think he was gonna say? “I’m gonna dismantle the police department and nuke Tel Aviv!”??? That Debs quote should have clued you in to what the class character of the speech was gonna be, his police policies are good, they literally involve reducing the role of police in public life using the excuse of “overworked cops”, that’s smart and good leftist triangulation that creates room for organizing on the ground

And there’s a million Jews in New York City, did you seriously expect him not to offer even a single sentence of vague resurgence?

The working class being misled about what socialism is is not a victory for socialism, in fact, we used to have a word for it. Revisionism, opportunism.

what exactly did you think he was gonna say? “I’m gonna dismantle the police department and nuke Tel Aviv!”

You know there’s another option called “not saying anything”? Why exactly did he feel it was important to shout out Zionism and the pigs in his maiden speech?

Honestly an embarrassment you have Marx in your username with these takes lol. You are a liberal at heart.

The working class being misled about what socialism is is not a victory for socialism

They’re not being misled on socialism, they’re voting for their collective interest, a prerequisite for socialist agitation and the further development of class consciousness, policies that minimize the domination of commodity production in favor of rising worker consumption and organization, it’s the job of theorists to correct and offer solutions to deviations and the allure of opportunism, the supermajority of the working class only engages with politics through the lens of electoralism, and since the closest thing we Marxists have to a hard-set law is to meet the workers where they’re at and not simply lecture at them, that’s means we must take electoral organizing seriously

Why exactly did he feel it was important to shout out Zionism and the pigs in his maiden speech?

See, now this is where a lack of strategic thinking leads, he wasn’t shouting out Zionism, he was undermining an obvious upcoming campaign of slander concerning his supposed antisemitism, the same strategy used against Corbyn, and to undermine that strategy does in fact require engaging with the 1 million Jews of New York, not by undermining the pro-Palestinian front which he didn’t do during his speech, but by offering Jewish New Yorkers buy-in and an alternative from the AIPAC dominated landscape that scars their community

And he didn’t shout out the pigs, he said he would merge “Justice” and “Order” and “work with the cops”, which is a dogwhistle considering his policy consists of stripping the cops of most of their functions and handing them over to a new department of social workers, sorry he didn’t espouse the virtues of some anarchist pipe dream of spontaneous abolition, did you hear China still has cops, let’s go cancel Xi next…

If universal suffrage had offered no other advantage than that it allowed us to count our numbers every three years; that by the regularly established, unexpectedly rapid rise in our vote it increased in equal measure the workers’ certainty of victory and the dismay of their opponents, and so became our best means of propaganda; that it accurately informed us of our own strength and that of all opposing parties, and thereby provided us with a measure of proportion second to none for our actions, safeguarding us from untimely timidity as much as from untimely foolhardiness–if this had been the only advantage we gained from the suffrage, it would still have been much more than enough.

But it did more than this by far. In election propaganda it provided us with a means, second to none, of getting in touch with the mass of the people where they still stand aloof from us; of forcing all parties to defend their views and actions against our attacks before all the people; and, further, it provided our representatives in the Reichstag with a platform from which they could speak to their opponents in parliament, and to the masses outside, with quite a different authority and freedom than in the press or at meetings. Of what avail was their Anti-Socialist Law to the government and the bourgeoisie when election campaigning and socialist speeches in the Reichstag continually broke through it? - Introduction to Marx’s Class Struggles in France, Engels

Alot of pseudo-anarchists on this site learnt the wrong lessons from the Bernie and AOC debacles, too many of you took it as a permission slip to sink into infantilism and spontaneity theory, more concerned with powerless moralizing than achieving victory or simply beginning the path of victory

Electoralism is a tool defined by who wields it, and smearing and sneering at every comrade who engages with that tool is the definition of counterproductive navel gazing
