U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill on Tuesday was elected governor of New Jersey, shoring up Democratic control of a state that has been reliably blue in presidential and Senate contests but had shown signs of shifting rightward in recent years.
Sherrill, a former Navy helicopter pilot and four-term member of Congress, defeated Jack Ciattarelli, who was endorsed by Donald Trump.
The start of voting on Tuesday was disrupted after officials in seven counties received emailed bomb threats later determined by law enforcement to be unfounded, said the state’s top election official, Lt. Gov. Tahesha Way. A judge granted a one-hour extension at some polling places after Democrats made a request for three schools that received emailed bomb threats earlier Tuesday.
I’m glad they got an extension but I hope there weren’t any people who lost their time in the day to vote because of that.
Pisses me off and reminds me of waiting in a long line in Ohio during a presidential election - I was voting near a college where they clearly hadn’t prepared for the number of voters. It took several hours to get through the line and I saw a kid come up to the line and just go “i don’t have time for this” and leave. The people in line and the poll workers were all friendly, but a lot of us left that night feeling like it wasn’t a coincidence a polling station near a college had so much trouble. You siphon off a few voters here and there, and it doesn’t seem like a lot, but it can be enough if it’s close.
How is this the first I’m hearing about the pathetic MAGA attempts at election fraud?
I lived in one of these towns. Six different counties got generalized bomb threats and they are split 50/50 between the center and right wing (there are no leftist communities in NJ). Of the three schools that got a threat two are in very purple towns.
They arrested a kid in New Brunswick for the threats against New Brunswick. No word if they threatened the other towns yet.
I grew up in NJ and there are definitely left or right communities/towns but yeah not whole counties.
Many counties have strong voting records in one direction or another ie Middlesex is solidly red BUT the towns targeted are Ridgewood, New Brunswick and a third Im spacing. New Bruns is purple and Ridgewood is purple-red.
Threatening to Bomb Schools? It was Probably ANTIFA and NOT the MAGA people who show up Armed to Schools and Threaten to Bomb Children Hospitals!
