do they have ai datacenters there, i wouldnt be surprised if the electric bill is higher too. Florida is going under water, plus so much invasive species there, because of illicit exotic pet/plant trade.

About 20 years ago, I wrote a mobile app for a company that surveys power lines all over the rural South and cuts away trees and vegetation that threatens the lines. In most places, the landowners are compensated for any trees that have to be cut down, with a variable scale that pays more the rarer the tree is. This has created a cottage industry where landowners plant all sorts of exotic shit directly under the power lines as a guaranteed cash crop. It’s certainly an under-appreciated source of invasive species.

You used almost slave labour in the form of migrants workers, and paid them in government money so you could continue to be a farmer and not have to sell up to some multinational agri-corp.

But then you voted for trump because other people said foreigners were taking your job, and because your a fucking gormless mouth breather.

The USA has always been a horrid country but to act like neoliberal Democrats are the same as the warmongering fascists that make up the Republican party is pretty fucking stupid.

The American population could have voted in Harris and then pushed for change but instead voted in a party that is repeatedly pushing for the invasion of Canada, Greenland/Denmark and Panama while also ACTIVELY bombing Venezuelan fishing boats in an attempt to instigate a perpetual war.

        Fuck off with the whataboutism

They’re not the one doing whataboutism. The topic of discussion was the impacts of farming and the use of migrant labor. “Whataboutism” is leveraging an off-topic criticism to distract from something that disproves your belief. As an example, imagine someone who was both unable to defend the exploitive labor practices Harris advocates for, so they suddenly pivot to talking about something wildly unrelated like military policy.

The DNC also expanded pathways to citizenship as part of their bipartisan border security bill. I think there is a pretty stark distinction between slave labor and “almost slave labour”, for example the private prison complex is salivating at turning the new Trump migrant detention facilities into actual slave labor.

Part of the reason why some farmers voted for trump (not the majority but some) was that american workers would consider farm jobs beneath them, and both americans and undocumented workers could always transfer to other jobs / farms if the conditions were unfavorable. Instead, they want to drive workers towards H2A visa to create modern slavery where workers have their pasports taken, are beaten and their families threatened by American companies

Trump rolled back protections for these workers earlier this year

they just want to Pay them less, and no benefits. so they can reap in all the profits. plus its also harder to exploit a citizen, because they will start reporting the farm owners for unfavaroable conditions, or bring the press(news) on them, plus they would ask for benefits and a higher wage, which they deserve. migrant workers arnt going to do this.

also the fact that other jobs pay better, and its not brutal on the body. even places like walmart, target,or some warehouse, or grocery store workers have better pay and not working brutal hours/physicial labor.

It’s not crazy. Voting should be decided by what is best for the country. Not being bribed by some government program is a good thing.

However, I don’t believe that that is the thought process of this hypothetical Nebraskan farmer.

A country beeing able to produce its own food is a good thing even if said food is not viable on a global market because of cheaper imports. What happens if there is a shipping crisis like with a pandemic? Does everybody just starve because no food is brought in from other countries? Subsidies can be very useful, but just subsidizing corn and soy for export is not one of these cases.

Straight up most republicans/conservatives, especially the older set, as a rule do not change their minds or opinions about things nor do they take new or corrected information into account. Whatever the first knowledge they acquire on any subject is the truth and always will be the truth.
