Cheriogotis got 24,005 votes -or 50.8% - to Drummond’s 23,285, or 49.2 percent, according to unofficial results

The campaign between Drummond and Cheriogotis became a battle of endorsements. Drummond touted her support from high-profile Democratic figures like former U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, former U.S. Senator Doug Jones of Alabama, New Jersey U.S. Senator Cory Booker, Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin and Georgia U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop.

Cheriogotis countered with local endorsements from [outgoing mayor Sandy] Stimpson, which he received in May, and former Mayor Mike Dow. He was also endorsed by the local law enforcement unions and the city’s Realtors, both strong local support networks.

Drummond leaned heavily on her long tenure in public service and her deep ties to Mobile city government. Cheriogotis countered that he brings real-world experience that included a background as a business owner.

I like schadenfreude as much as the next guy but I’m not really seeing a major takeaway here. Prosecutor with ties to local pols and the money narrowly edges out city civil servant with national endorsements.
