“HOI4 Modder or Earnest Political Crank” is gonna be a fun game as US politics gets crazier by the day and the HOI4 mods try to satirize it with more and more exaggeration every update.
I kinda wanna try some wacky HOI4 mods now. Even though I barely know how to play HOI4.
Oh yeah, they do call Kaiserreich “the syndie mod”. And, like, I was never really a syndicalist, but I did love the C.N.T-F.A.I in my teenage anarchist phase. So yeah I like syndicalism in political games even now.
Oh, yeah. Communist China is a fun one to play in a lot of these political games. I will say, I personally like unconventional and ahistorical commie paths a lot more than the mostly-historical ones or alternate ideologies for actual socialist states. A good test of a “Leftist Mod” for a game like this is the quality/existence of the ahistorical communist paths. I do like both wildly implausible ones and ones that follow the communist tendency actually popular in that country at that time frame, though. And I always like a good implausible an-com or syndie power-fantasy path, because when I play political games, I’m very much still my twelve year old self.
There was a good HOI4 mod that had a good communist Japan path. I’ll have to dig it up and check it out but it was really neat since the base-game communist Japan path is very scarce and justifiably very hard to do.
Ooh, fun. I must admit, communist Britain is a personal favourite of mine for its sheer implausibility - commie America is fun for the same reasons, but decently written commie Britain is a little bit rarer, so it’s always neat.
That’s why I love it. The game is just crankery all the way round and I was saying I would want to see a hardcore environmentalist-maoist trump path too. Shit would be hilarious. Accelerating the collapse of the Empire and tweeting like the Buddha and encouraging community action. There should be like a “trump political shift” tree where you can just literally have him in any flavor. Have him run in the DNC. Abandon all of his past and begin championing for Islam. Shit would be hilarious.

Ohh yeah. HOI4 is absolutely distilled political crankery. The real schizo mods are like the thrice distilled and finely aged stuff. But I really hate war as a front and center mechanic of a political game, which means I tend to stick to ahistorical socialism in vanilla or lightly modded Vicky, not the true nuttiness that is leftist paths in HOI4’s craziest mods.

Yeah, communism in vanilla HOI4 is just often a let down in general.
They have an extremely detailed path for communist Britain, France, America and Italy, and most major nations in the game have the option.
