    Federal and some states (in this case NY) forbid cameras in courtrooms, hence the drawings. I’m sure there’s some antiquated BS reason for it that I can’t be bothered to look up.

      It’s because there was some courtroom incident where it was absolutely flooded with independent photographers and they caused some sort of incident

      I don’t know why they didn’t just say “okay we got one guy whose job it is to take pictures” instead of calling up a fucking art school

      The common justification I hear for this is to avoid making a trial a media spectacle. If there is no camera then you can’t act for the camera
