Movies and TV shows are modern art forms, and as such are created by artists.

Artists have almost always been politically left of centre, usually wildly so.

Video games have likewise been ‘woke’ for a long fucking time too - but don’t you dare try to make that point to GamersTM.

Moore told NPR in an interview released Tuesday that multiple pastors had told him they would quote the Sermon on the Mount, specifically the part that says to “turn the other cheek,” when preaching. Someone would come up after the service and ask, “Where did you get those liberal talking points?”

“What was alarming to me is that in most of these scenarios, when the pastor would say, ‘I’m literally quoting Jesus Christ,’ the response would not be, ‘I apologize.’ The response would be, ‘Yes, but that doesn’t work anymore. That’s weak,’” Moore said. “When we get to the point where the teachings of Jesus himself are seen as subversive to us, then we’re in a crisis.”

If they think Christ is too weak and his words outdated, then maybe they should stop calling themselves Christians?

Imagine that you’re awake, with your eyes open, aware of the issues in the world, and wanting to be part of making it better, and…

…there’s a massive number of people who think you’re a shithead for believing that, and should probably be murdered for it. Just do what they tell you.

Woke has become one of my favourite words. It’s like when i was a kid, and everything was gay. Now it’s woke. He’s playing street fighters one woke controls. And same with the word gay, and how it was used, it was always funny when someone used it as an actual insult and you’re just like: oh yeah, i actually don’t care. Guess i’m woke then.

When I first started my current job a couple of years ago, there was a discussion going on in the office complaining about ‘woke’, albeit fairly mildly, which I wasn’t really participating in. My boss, who’s ex-army asked ‘Are you woke Almacca?’, to which I replied ‘I’m woke as fuck.’ She hasn’t brought it up again since. :)

The “anti-woke” men at my office once crowned me the “woke police” because I commented on one of their sexist/racist/homophobic/ whatever “jokes”. It’s my badge of honour. The weird part is that we kinda entered into some sort of cold war. I could comment on their “jokes”, pretending it was in jest as part of my job as “woke police”, while still getting the message across. I guess it kinda kept some semblance of friendliness and ability to cooperate while we still got our opinions out.

Little babies getting their feelings hurt. If only they could read and understand that woke is a form of being awake/aware and their self owns by making fun of it is blatantly hilarious. Only the media and the right get all up in arms over woke, the rest of us just call it reality.

If by “woke” you mean scientific intelligence, reason, truth, honour and compassion, then I’m all for it.

Doesn’t woke just mean being aware of issues in your society?

I don’t really see what scientific intelligence has to do with that tbh.

not specifically scientific intelligence, but more so trusting the scientific process that has been developed over centuries, and not refuting all scientific claims that conflict with specific political motives (i.e: believing that climate change is real and heavily influenced by humans and that we should stop polluting == woke. not believing in climate change because Big Oil lobbies ethically compromised politicians that then tell their constituents that climate change is a hoax; being one of those easily manipulated people == anti woke)

We can legitimately level a lot of hate at Hollywood and a large swath of “content creators” online for escalating the very idea of “woke” into positions so delusional or terrible that I’m still not convinced it’s not just psyop all the way down. They made the idea of progressivism and social good seem cringe, socially out-of-touch, ham-fisted and unrealistic.

I’d love to see less “recast famous story in new races for controversy and profit” and more original stories that show actual struggles that various groups face because of their ethnicity or other identities. (I’d love to see a superhero movie that goes after corrupt healthcare company CEO’s but someone already tried to make that story on their own.)

They shot themselves in the dick for the express purpose of creating drama and engagement while trying to appeal to their mental image of “liberal america” in pursuit of profit, not ideals.

Honestly, the new Superman movie is a bit of a breath of fresh air, it delivers a powerful social message without falling into the tired tropes and doesn’t sugar-coat it, you know EXACTLY who they’re targeting and who they represent. But they’re also not trying to pander to both-sides. They kept Superman consistent to his values and showed that bad things are in fact, bad. And bad guys exist and are bad. (And they’re usually the wealthy elite.)

    Star Wars: Fighting space Nazis

Superman: protecting people from Lex Luthor; evil billionaire

Star Trek: Post scarcity society where all humans are treated as equals and nobody “gets” to be a billionaire (Fully Automated Luxury Gay Space Communism)

Doctor Who: had a woman Doctor once

Marvel: “Evil is bad, how about let’s not genocide” (ignoring the billionaire worship w/ Iron Man)

X-Men: always been an allegory for LGBTQ+ and disabled folks

RATM: I mean, it’s in the name.

Starting to see a theme here hmm

Doctor Who: had a woman Doctor once

Also Rose, the first companion of the new series was constantly showing the viewers the working class’s perspective throughout all their adventures, and fighting for those people at every chance.

Then there are also characters like Dr. River Song and Madam Vastra, who are always shown as strong women who can fight their own.

New Who has always been woke AF I don’t know why they minimized it so much in the other comment. Like, yes the main doctor is almost always a white man, but the show itself has often (and even more so in recent episodes) had a clear “woke” agenda. And I’m not saying that in a negative sense. The showrunner for much of it was/is a gay “absolutely happily left wing” man ffs.

Edit: also, this thread talking about strong female leads jn Dr Who and not discussing Donna Noble is just wrong.

Also the second companion, Martha, was a black medical student. One of the best companions too, up there with Amy and Clara if you ask me. Wish she’d gotten more than one season.

Alex Jones often imitates Darth Vader and Baron Harkonnen from Dune (as in putting himself in their roles) when he’s bragging about how he and his fellow fascists are “destroying the globalists” 🤦😄

Everyone’s a billionaire in Star Trek. But oddly enough, everyone is controlled by a huge naval organisation.

Nah, most of humanity at least is either living idyllic lives, or chose to live on a frontier world or research station or something. Starfleet’s just the exploratory arm of the Federation; but that’s where most of the fun stories are!

Seriously! I started listening to Rage Against the Machine specifically because they had songs like “Thank you, I’ll always do what you tell me” and “Wake Up (to the genocidal leftist conspiracy)”. This whole 180 they’ve made has been devastating.
