Feels like a fair assessment. I think it’s almost guaranteed that Monstrous Rage, Manifold Mouse and Cori Steel Cutter get banned, but I’m thinking Up the Beanstalk, Stormchaser’s Talent and Omniscience are likely hits too

I’d love to see WOTC take the hammer to standard. It’d make it more fun for me at least.

I think my list is at minimum Monstrous Rage, Cori Steel-Cutter, Manifold Mouse, Stormchaser’s Talent. Following that:

    • Either Omniscience or one of its support cards. GY hate and control are more viable in a slower format though.
    • Either Callous Sell-Sword or Cacophony Scamp to reduce the consistency of the red fling deck, considering we’ll still have Turn Inside Out and some other support pieces. Remember, this was a pretty oppressive deck, and scamp rotates soon anyway. Sell-Sword does not rotate yet, so I can see them leaving it in.
    • Possibly Up the Beanstalk. I’m mixed on this because the deck loses support soon, but it also restricts design space.
    • Possibly Screaming Nemesis. I’m personally of the opinion that this single card negates the entire lifegain archetype and is largely unanswerable. I’m mixed on this though since I don’t think it’s too insane outside of that, just that it severely restricts what decks can exist in standard.

Decks I think will rise are the bounce deck, hopefully a goblin deck for red (instead of the BS we have now), maybe jeskai prowess(?), jeskai control, dimir control, and some reanimator strategies that weren’t as viable before. Boros tokens coming back could be interesting too.

I agree with him here, and I think he has a good understanding of Standard.

My personal list is Monstrous Rage, Manifold Mouse, Cori Steel-Cutter, Omniscience, Stormchaser’s Talent, Caretaker’s Talent, and Up the Beanstalk. I think that has a wide band so as not to “bequeath” the crown to another deck, although something in mono-black may need to be hit as well, and if so I think it should be Unholy Annex/Ritual Chamber.

This would get rid of these “hyper efficient engines” that are I think are plaguing Standard right now. Cards that just do too much and are an entire deck in a single card. Even if you slow Standard down by hitting Cori and mono-red, I still think these engines need to go because they we’re a huge problem for Standard before this mess too in my opinion.

Bans need to happen. Current Standard is a hot mess. The last time there was a turn 3 kill in Standard (one that could happen on turn 1) required 4x Mindbreak Trap and your opponent to search their library. Before that, was Blazing Shoal. And before that, Ravager Affinity and Skullclamp.

Shoal and Mindbreak Trap had only the smallest chances of winning early. Affinity and Skullclamp warped things so badly, the format became synonymous with “M:tG fuckups.” The fact there are consistent wins before turn 4 in Standard is such a glaring mistake. No wonder people are moving to EDH when nonsense like this exists.
