I have a friend at work that has a half joke theory about how this new level of chuddery started when they declassified Pluto as a planet.

“Global warming” would have been the thing if they didn’t find a way to make fun of people (gee, I guess I have to go shovel all the global warming out of the driveway type stuff) but Pluto was a bridge too far. It was a FACT they learned in school! You don’t just change facts because some nerd in a labcoat comes along and ruins my childhood!

It tipped their fragile worldview over the point of being the dominant worldview and they just got more unhinged as time went on

There is this weird “malicious overcompliance” from them that you normally see from people who thought they had the answer but are told they are wrong. Ever notice that? I don’t know how else to describe it. “Mom please don’t put spoons on the table” “oh fine I guess I’ll never put spoons on the table time to eat soup with a fork.”

lol imagine still believing in Pluto or even space in the year of our lord 2025 annoyed dominance. Everyone knows the earth is flat and the sky is just a projection.
