Summary

Republican lawmakers plan to fund tax cuts and defense spending by cutting Medicaid, despite risks of backlash from their own constituents.

Medicaid provides health coverage to 72 million Americans, including many in GOP strongholds like Louisiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, West Virginia, and Arkansas.

While some Republicans express concern, no senator has openly opposed the cuts. House Speaker Mike Johnson suggests work requirements to limit Medicaid benefits.

Democrats warn of devastating impacts, recalling GOP struggles after past Medicaid cuts. Legal battles over work requirements continue, with Arkansas pushing to reinstate them under a potential Trump administration.

What’s so fucked about this is that while someone like me sees this, I am horrified about the consequences to the kids who will be affected by this who had no role, but ALSO the people that foolishly voted Republican and how they will be harmed, even if it was self-inflicted.

I am pretty sure that feeling is not always mutual. Even as a qon is being damaged by stuff like this, I think not a few would take delight in knowing that liberals (and POC. And uppity women. And LGBTQ. And immigrants) might be hurt, too.

So I admit I used to feel the horror you’re describing, but seeing them refuse to reciprocate for my entire voting life has made me a damn sight more jaded these days. And I have precisely zero sympathy for places and people who vote against their own interests.
