I’ve been comparing its results to plantnet, same time of year, same exact pictures even, and Seek is getting wrecked in comparison. That said I don’t have any idea how either app even works.

Oh interestingggg… I can only tell it’s messing up with plants, since plants are what I know. I’ve just been mostly taking it at it’s word for insects/fungi/etc, good to hear that’s been working out!

Could the problem be area specific? My initial thought was, if people are submitting lots of erroneous IDs near me, maybe it’s messing up the data?

Has anyone else noticed their identification app, Seek, has dramatically worsened in identification ability? Not recently, more like over the last I wanna say year or so.

I’m also very tired of having to spend SO MUCH time and energy on something that ought to be largely irrelevant to my life, I totally feel that. However, there is one thing that makes me feel a lot better about it. I imagine what I might have been like, as a person, if I didn’t have any kind of marginalized identity.

If I wasn’t like this, my entire worldview would likely have been developed from a fairly privileged position. I would never have experienced this struggle. And while the trans struggle is not identical to the struggles of other marginalized people, it definitely hits a lot of the same notes. So I feel like it has definitely broadened my understanding of other people’s plights, to the point where I don’t think I’d wanna give that up in exchange for being cis. I feel like that me might’ve ended up more of an asshole, you know?

Not my department specifically, but my organization has. And I work for a county government, so… be worried about that going forward, I’d say.

Ahh gotcha. I was hoping I could fudge that part for in the round work, since it’s for an existing project that isn’t already in multiples of 10. Maybe it won’t work then. Next time I’ll think further ahead!

You can from Mastodon! Not sure from Pixelfed but it seems probable? With mastodon it’s something like… you just @ mention the community, and have one separate line at the top to become the post title? I think?

It does have groups! And they’re even interoperable with Lemmy/PieFed/Mbin groups. The experience is definitely very Facebook like, and there are themes that make it even more so.

On the other hand, every instance I’ve ever been on has run into serious lag issues and/or collapsed entirely… Hoping that’s not universal or else gets fixed soon.

While i definitely agree, none of this is a deal breaker for me. What is a deal breaker is this: I am on my third Friendica account now because the first 2 instances both started struggling and then collapsed. The one I’m on now is suddenly running very slow, just like the first 2 before the end. It seems to me like maybe they’re kinda hard to run?

I thought alllllll the trans people I ever knew about, just kinda luckily happened to be born looking that way? Nobody ever told me about like… transition stuff, hormones, etc lolll

I’m always soooo excited for native fediverse apps, because PWAs are annoying in a bunch of ways. But then it actually happens, and I remember that none of the cool themes will be in there 😅

For me it’s always been alcohol and distracting myself with hobbies. I don’t think I’d recommend the first one, but the second one is maybe ok? Think that’s what Peter Wessel Zapffe called “sublimation” and it’s probabblllyyy healthy-ish.

WHOAAA!!! that’s actually a HUGE deal and it hadn’t even occurred to me how much I was missing it.

I do it pretty much the same as you actually! It’s always kinda hard to tell what other people are doing though. Since my instance is kinda small, I barely see a tiny fraction of whatever total boosts/favorites a post has unless i click through to the orignal.

In order for things like this to keep being offered, please keep an eye on your local library’s board and director. Ours are terrible, and gleefully destroying all our similar initiatives… Recent events have them feeling very empowered to do so.
