Firstly, it does not appear that there is a meta or community community for the instance, so this looked to be the best place to post this.
It appears that only the admins from the instance are federating outwardly to other instances.
I was browsing some of the communities here with my main lemmy account and started to notice that none of the posts were actually from mtgzone members. I did see posts from Mike and Andrew (I forget the format to tag), but everything else visible was posts from users from other instances. I checked to see if it was just that instance, and tried one of my underused accounts from a larger instance and still nothing.
I’m not sure if I understand what “federating outwardly” means. You mean if I view “all” I’ll still only see @mtgzone communities?
I can see lemmy.blahaj.zone and lemmy.world at least.
I mean if I view mtgzone communities from another instance posts and comments made by members of mtgzone do not seem to be federating.
I am still investigating this, but I was checking out in an incognito window and I was able to view comments here: https://lemmy.world/c/mtg@mtgzone.com
From that page, I went to a post https://lemmy.world/post/14092789?scrollToComments=true and see some comments coming through, but I have to look into this more.
Thank you for bumping this thread, I had forgotten. No not yet, but Andrew and I are going to have to spend some time investigating the logs I think. Neither of us, unfortunately, are very well versed in the lemmy source code or hosting the service, but I think we could try upgrading to the latest version and getting on the discord to debug with some experts.
Thanks Mike. I like your instance and had planned to use it much more with this account, but with its reach only being members of this instance it makes any kind of engagement difficult. I do will visit and use this instance with my main account.
I will set up some time with Andrew to check this over the weekend, but I was doing some quick checks and I do see mtgzone content coming in from our site: https://lemmy.world/search?q=donato+giancola&type=All&listingType=All&page=1&sort=TopAll
I’m ignorant in much of this though, I was just curious if you had anything we could use to test the outward federation while we debug it. I do remember earlier I wasn’t able to see any search results from mtgzone on the .world site which seems at least promising now.
If this issue was related to server resources, we upgraded those some months ago and that could possibly impact the federating. I’ll check that out first.
My account is on sopuli.xyz, and both while logged in and not logged in, i have seqrched for my user name, my comments, and posts. I have done the same with lemm.ee (i also have an account there). I have searched on other instances while not logged in. All have yielded nothing.
I am subscribed to a number of mtgzone communities with my sopuli account and regularly see posts there, both by members of mtgzone and other instances.
So there is some content making it out. I am wondering if maybe three nature of my account creation caused an issue, a corrupt account maybe? When i signed up initially i botched entering my email address and was never able to complete registration. I created a second account and you or Andrew changed the name or something, it has been a while.
I tried to log into the second account a while back to test that theory and was unable.
Wow this isn’t good, I’m out of town this weekend but will try to investigate as soon as possible.
We’re not doing anything custom, it’s just a stock Lemmy install, so I’m curious why that wouldn’t be working as expected.
A very simple test right now using an account on another server subscribed to !mtg@mtgzone.com does see what I think are all posts, certainly posts from non admins. I’ll check much more substantially though and if you have any additional context that would be super helpful.
Here are some screen shots i grabbed from 3 different instances, plus here, all of which i am logged into them. I tried logging out of my sopuli account to see if that had any effect, and it did not. FWIW ewu’s has a post that i can see. I noticed this because i was trying to show a customer the post i made about the original Rule Book and could not find the post on my sopuli account.
Thanks! I have an issue in to them about it as there’s nothing I’ve been able to do to fix it or see what might be the issue. https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/4630
I thought it might just be the server unable to keep up but it doesn’t show anything in the queue, it’s just not sending all updates. Perhaps the re-attempts are delayed too much and should be more aggressive but regardless I think this is a bug still with Lemmy that wasn’t fully resolved with the last release.
Could we please defederate from hexbear.net? See https://lemmy.zip/post/19777458 for a discussion on the pros and cons, from lemmy.world. As you’ll see there, even blocking an instance doesn’t prevent inflammatory propaganda from influencing your instance.
Attempts to engage in discussion on hexbear with views that challenge their narrative result in your post getting deleted so you can’t participate. It is toxic and shouldn’t be allowed to affect other instances, like this one.
