I’m not sure if he lied per se (or at least in this instance?) but he definitely got out over his skis saying this before the election. Even back in August, it was pretty fucking stupid since Colorado is blue and there is one of his gigantic gas stations there…

Stop at every one. Just to use the bathrooms. And leave. The bathrooms are massive, and you get to pee on their organization at the same time.

The cool thing is, if you already owned Buc-ee’s swim trunks before you found out what a tosser he is, you can piss on them all the time and never set foot in the store!

nonzero chance they still profit from this due to being able to categorize you into a percentage group to sell to advertisers.

Its more that they can analyze demographics based on race, perceived gender and clothing style to estimate financial brackets that shop in the store and cater ads to groups of people based on how you interact in the store. Things you looked at, how long you looked at it, your walking style, what youre doing with your hands. Its all tracked and used and/or sold to mentally manipulate you into buying.

you probably know this but I’m responding for people who may not.

I’ve been there a few times. It’s…okay? Bathrooms are nice and clean, as advertised.

But I don’t really see what the big deal is. Just seems like the Walmart of gas stations.

But now that this asshat went and opened his big mouth I have no plans on going there again…ironically, there is one right off I-25 near Fort Collins in Colorado…which has been pretty much blue for years. Somehow, the place is busy as hell and seems to be doing alright.

Conservatives always have to make things so goddamned weird. Has anyone asked this guy what “family friendly” means?

But I don’t really see what the big deal is.

People who make a big deal out of it are over the top, but it’s pretty good at being a gas station:

        • The gas is usually priced well. I’ve seen 10% lower than anything else in the area before.
        • There’s a variety of hot food, all adequate. With a group of people, it’s likely everyone will find something.
        • There are a lot of snacks.
        • There’s a variety of caffeine, all reasonably priced instead of the usual gas station trick of energy drinks are only reasonably priced if you buy three.
        • There are always gas pumps open. No waiting.
        • It’s clean, from the pump to the toilet.

If there’s one on my route and the timing makes sense, that’s where I’ll stop.

Yeah. I get all that. Most or all of the (hot) food is not vegetarian or vegan so our options are drastically narrowed, but that’s every single gas station, really.

I appreciate it being clean. It seems other chains could just step their bathroom and game up - like say, Love’s - and it’d be about the same.

What I really don’t get is when people make it a destination and want merch and so on. The signs for Buc’ees (in Fort Collins) start up in Wyoming, IIRC. You’d think it was a place like Wall Drug or something…

To me, the whole thing struck me as a bit goofy as we first pulled off the highway a few years ago. Then I walked in and the store seemed like a combo of Hobby Lobby and Walmart as far as Americana schlock being sold…definitely got a whiff of what they were probably going for. Figured it was kind of coded for conservatives.

          I was right.

To a ya’ll qaeda Christian, “family friendly” means:

Jesus is watching you masturbate, disapprovingly.

He also wants you to remember its a sin to discuss your wages/salary, and that unionizing is an unforgivable/deadly sin.

… its camp. They don’t realize they’re doing camp, because they’re in a cult, but its camp.

Right, here’s Betty Bowers, America’s Best Christian.

        https://youtube.com/MrsBettyBowers

10 years ago or whatever, you could tell this was obviously satire. Nowadays? Much closer to indistinguishable from shit ya’ll qaeda Christians do and say totally earnestly.

I am also not an expert but my inclination is “no”.

You could, having never seen an impressionist painting, come up with an impressionist art piece on your own.

Similarly, you can act and behave in ways that follow rules and patterns you are not consciously aware of.

You can be broadly described as a parody of something, with yourself either not aware of / intending this, or even with you vehemently denying it.

You don’t have to be self aware to delve into an oddly specific, intense, and reverant form of nostalgia. You can do that without realizing that that is what you are doing.

Before all that became a thing and back when I still ate omnivore food, they did have a decent breakfast biscuit thing with chicken and that was actually pretty good. Their coffee was passable, too.

Never really did understand the appeal of the basic sandwich they have. Oh, it has a pickle? Well color me impressed! I mean, it was okay, at least it was a decent cut of meat and tasted okay, but overall the sandwich didn’t exactly “pop” as something extremely special.

But I haven’t been to one in over 20 years…if they’d drop the hate and bring back something for vegans and vegetarians, someone should let me know…

You know, I went down a small rabbit hole yesterday studying Presbyterianism after seeing what denomination Talarico was.

I came to find that they are just one group of a few sects (or heresies if you’re feeling particularly zealous) of “English Dissenters”. More or less the rift between Protestantism and leaving the English monarchist church behind when establishing the New World.

One of such related sects were the Enthusiasts, who were amongst other things credited unearnestly as advocates for political and religious causes, Though frankly, it seems more peevish than fire and brimstone apoplexy if you ask me.

Delving further on the matter enthusiasm as a term, it was always a devine proclamation; to be possessed by a god, to have a devine inspiration. Enthusiasm isn’t just a passing interest, it’s by the providence granted on high. Those who are devinely touched by the god in the machine, understand what it is to be a car enthusiast.

I love how the Jalopnik writer wanted to write about the election results so bad that he grasped at the tenuous Buc-ee’s connection to shoehorn it into the website’s “car journalism” format.
