Why YSK: Because nobody likes slimy spinach, and this little trick soaks up the excess moisture that makes them turn. It’s like a tiny, silent hero for your fridge, saving you money and the sad feeling of throwing out perfectly good produce. Plus, more kale for your kale smoothies, if you’re into that sort of thing.
On a similar note, that’s something we seem to have lost with the move toward glass food storage. With plastic containers, there were always choices with a little rack at the bottom so something like a said can remain out of its drippings. But I haven’t seen anything similar for glass …. And containers big enough for a head of lettuce are heavy and expensive
Also works for strawberries !!!
What, just like in the crisper drawer by itself? Wrapped around the item(s) you want to protect? Anywhere in the fridge?
Just having a roll of paper towels is a powerful totem. Keep it within 100 yards of your fridge!
Just wave the paper towel in the direction of the greens, and they are protected, my child
Don’t forget the magic incantations.
Wrap around and put in a plastic bag for best results in my experience. No bag necessary though, it will still last a while.
I did a Google search and the recommendation is to put the paper towel over the mouth of the recipient the greens are in, or just shoved in the bag with them if that’s where they are.
OP seems to be mass-copying LPTs from someredditwhere or something.
At first I read “mouth of the recipient” as the person eating the greens
Yup, that should also keep the greens safe a while longer!
Oh, paper towels, what can’t you do?
This works great with cilantro. Keeps for two weeks.
Yessss! I have been using this for many years. I thought it was of public knowledge
does this work if I also have broccoli or such in there as well? would it affect other produce?
