I don’t understand how more people aren’t being actively driven insane by the hell we have constructed around ourselves

I think not being driven insane by the hell we have constructed around ourselves is itself a symptom of an even deeper insanity, for which the omnipresent ads serve as a kind of voight-kampf test

I was listening to an episode of a podcast on iHeartRadio (terrible platform btw) and I am pretty sure they served me personalised ads in a podcast episode which was new for me.

I can only guess but here is what happened. The audio stream took a long time to start so they could be doing some preprocessing. Then the ad mentioned a local online store so it was localised for my country.

Seems like iHeartRadio podcasts are 40% ads and half the ads are for their true crime slop.

Yeah, iHeart podcasts have dynamically spliced ads. In Poland I just get ads for other podcasts

At first I just thought you meant the product placement that shows have been doing for a long time (love when the characters in Bones organically get distracted talking about the features in a someone’s new SUV), but somehow this is even more insulting.
