god they’re amazing. the whole reason they even made pop music was so they could do some higher-profile shit-stirring like dumping a bucket of ice water on john prescott at the brit awards:
they also have a really great anarcho-punk back catalog along with some folk music
They wrote one song that would pay all the bills, and spent all the rest of their time being punk as hell. Respect.
They also made an LP years ahead of time only to be released upon the death of Margaret Thatcher. It’s pretty fun, and the liner notes do not pull any punches

Also iirc they made Tubthumping as a way to get some cash to help fund less financially successful punk artists in the same scene. They demonstrated their ability to make a generational banger then went right back to making weird anarchist folk music (that I love and am not denigrating by calling it that)

Btw I used to have the album ‘I get Knocked Down’ is off of and it’s incredibly underrated. Every song off that album is such a weird high energy fucking banger. Very useful when moving out of an apartment you’re being evicted from due to noise complaints.

One of my first cds growing up. Good thing my parents had zero media literacy. Chumbawumba were proper anarchist punks.
They also turned down a very large amount of cash (something like a mil) from Nike. Who wanted to use this song in an advertising campaign
They ended up giving a lot of the proceeds to revolutionary anarchist groups in Africa too I believe.
