The navy frigate sent by Spain to accompany the humanitarian Global Sumud Flotilla of around fifty volunteer-crewed vessels taking aid to Gaza is unlikely to intervene to prevent any attacks by Israel on the fleet, which Israel has bombed and harassed nightly since its arrival in the Mediterranean.

Reality check: The navies of the West aren’t going to prevent any attacks, nor do I expect it to go into territorial waters. At best1 they will serve as a chilling effect for the Isn’trealians by serving as a potential witness.

Unless
does something really
stupidcool. Italy and Spain are NATO, and an attack might trigger Article 5.Article 5 is not automatic, otherwise NATO would’ve been pulled into direct¹ war with Russia by Poland
¹I acknowledge that NATO is essentially fighting a proxy war with Russia already
I know, but one can dream~
It wouldn’t cause NATO to act against Israel. NATO is not a defensive alliance and never was. It’s part of the US empire, as is Israel.
This just reminded me of a wild take I saw on Twitter yesterday
One person was talking about how it’s frustrating that people talk about Canada Post losing money (I assume they’re in a similar situation to the USPS) but never do the same for the military.
Someone replies that Canada Post shouldn’t be run for profit (*nodding along*) but that military spending is really good, actually (uh…), and that if Canada had a better-funded military they could stop the genocide in Gaza (???).
Pissreal hogs may be greed but they know to not trigger Article 5. Plus, Italy and Spain won’t let them, because they’ll stay back while the flotilla gets bombed.
I’ve accidentally activated the
before…
