I see some benefit in rehashing the election in that conceding the unproven (and I would argue unprovable) argument that Kamala would have been better cedes ideological ground unnecessarily to the Vote Blue No Matter Who position, which is a position that was used to browbeat people into breaking solidarity and supporting genocide and will be used by shitlibs to punch left long past when the fascists have put us all against the wall. Also for reference, I am a queer person of color who is from one of the demographics that made me have to make peace with the idea that the US government might just decide to fuck me and my family over out of nowhere for no reason and there’s nothing we can do to stop them, so I am very jaded.

getting just a little representation in a position of power dominated by white men is something that matters.

I would rather have a white man in power than have Kamala Harris be the POC “representation” we get and see her drag POC as a block further to the right. Given how hard she fought to murder Palestinians, given how hard she worked to rehabilitate the monsters who committed mass murder in Iraq, given how aggressively she spoke about immigration and the armed forces (she wanted America to have the “most lethal” armed forces in the world!), I do not believe she would have done good. Instead, she’d have done more atrocities while using her POC status as a shield against criticism. The “representation” that would give us is this: “Even POC can be bloodthirsty genocidal fascists”. That does two things: first, it sells fascism to POC. Second, it makes those of us who are not willing to become collaborators easier to demonize, because why can’t we be like Holocaust Harris? I do not want to see people of color excusing genocide or identifying with someone who’s been instrumental in committing genocide. Embracing Holocaust Harris as “representation” would be swallowing a poison pill.

As for the rest, it is impossible to prove counterfactuals, but I expected things to get much worse under Harris as well. In fact, with how far to the right she was campaigning, I was more worried about her winning (and thereby selling Fascism to Liberals, because whenever Liberals see Democrats doing Fascism, they rush to defend Fascism because it’s their team doing it. I’ve seen more criticism of fascist policies coming from liberals now that Democrats aren’t in power. Whether that translates to any real political change is unlikely.)

Palestine is worse off, Israel has gotten bolder

I contend it would have gotten worse under Harris too given how tirelessly she worked to help commit genocide. Things getting worse is the course of Genocide, and these were the next steps to be expected. Given that isntrael was committing genocide while Harris was 2nd in command in the US, I cannot take seriously any assertion that she wouldn’t have continued murdering people too. KB’s Palestinian partner may have thought it was responsible to vote for Holocaust Harris, Butcher of Gaza, but there were plenty of Palestinians and Muslims and Arabs who said the opposite and wanted to see the Democrats lose. The PFLP called on Americans to boycott both wings of the single genocidal party in charge of AmeriKKKa.

    POC are worse off

POC have been getting worse and worse off for decades here regardless of which party holds power.

black people being fired from their jobs

I don’t have enough context to say anything about this, but I will acknowledge that you said it and I didn’t know how to address it. Fired for being black? That’s extremely illegal, not that the law stops people.

immigrants being put into literal concentration camps

That’s not new. Ever hear of Joe Arpaio? Anyway, I think this was coming anyway because the Democrats have been moving rightward on immigration since Clinton. Obama and Biden were both aggressive about immigration. Holocaust Harris promised to be tougher on the border than trump and to militarize it. Her ads about immigration were scary. This is the direction AmeriKKKa was heading in anyway. It just gets more attention when Trump is in power because he’s heavyhanded.

Queer white people are at about the same place

As I expected, which is why it was getting annoying watching white people go “oh no we’re going to be marginalized” like yeah, join the club, it’s not the end of the world, the rest of us are used to it, you’ll figure out how to handle it too, but more likely white privilege will still keep you insulated from the worst of it.

I don’t think any adult in America can reasonably claim to have bloodless hands

    Maybe, maybe not.

I’m white, I live in a part of my city that is 40% white, and it’s way too obvious even to me that 40% is not hurting the way the 60% is.

Rail against liberals all you want, but liberals in good faith care about what’s legal and not legal. Under the current administration, “extremely illegal” is worth a fart in the wind.

1000% agree, and not to be a doomer but I think white people won’t actually care until it starts getting worse for white people, and it won’t get worse for white people until it’s too late for everyone.
