i also skimmed the article, and apparently the figure was estimated by comparing gaza to other similar conflicts and accounting for non-direct deaths, as opposed to palestine only adding to the death toll if 1. a body is retrieved 2. a body is identified and 3. it is determined that the body belongs to someone whose death was directly caused by the IDF (shot/ blown up/ died in the rubble). i knew that the 60k dead was a rather low estimate but i did not expect it to be that low. this is sickening. why doesn’t anyone give a fuck?

Every single government that has backed Israel deserves to be on trial in the Hague.

There’s been a few thoughts rattling at the back of my mind and it goes like this: Gaza, already, was considered one of the “youngest” places on Earth - the average age is young and children were a big demographic.

One of the things that tends to run concurrently with a large population of people under 18 is you also tend to have a lot of parents on the younger side. It varies of course but if you see a mother pick up their baby the mom tends to be between 16~35.

Another is that when something bad happens even if people stop having sex immediately you still have nine months of pregnancies to get through. If the date of the start of the conflict or crisis is shorter than nine months ago every baby born is a pre-crisis baby subsequently born into crisis. I mention this because while people have babies in every conceivable circumstance the vast majority of people do engage in the most rudimentary of family planning even if they carelessly bust inside but still have the idea in their head that they don’t really want a kid 9 months from that bust. Technically that’s some planning. Nobody goes “oh shit, war started? Babe let’s go raw tonight, I hope it lasts longer than nine months so our kid can be born in turmoil.” I mention that last bit because of the vile allegations that Muslims just love to have kids so they can be martyred, in particular if they are Muslims the State Department or Israelis dislike.

These kinds of facts rattle around my head and it convinces me that when we finally get a tally and we find out just how many were literal babies it’s going to shatter what is left of Israel’s reputation. Every place on earth has some claim to fame, everywhere is the world’s number one place for something, be it hotdog stands per square kilometer or how many people are born with freckles. Everywhere is the leader in some category or another. Gaza was, on average, the youngest place on earth. If you threw a ball into a crowd odds are a young hand would catch it. Youngest place on earth. And Israel blew it up.

Political violence is fine when it serves the interests of Capital, you can slaughter millions to empower the powerful.

But a single bullet, a single life close to the inner circle of Capital, that’s just one too many. The bullets are only supposed to fly in one direction: from them, at us.
