it is so fucking insane how since Vietnam any anti war thought is violently suppressed. Like fuck, just in my lifetime ive now seen it several times. Everytime its “HOW DARE YOU BE AGAINST DEAD INNOCENT CIVILIANS”
I have had to explain to two separate people this year that POW/MIA was entirely made up to get people to vote for Nixon. Thankfully that brainworm is easier to kill now (it’s been 60 years, Vietnam is on good terms with the US, where exactly are they supposed to be, etc).
Can’t remember the source I found at the time, but even libs are onboard so it’s not that hard to find stuff. Here’s one article, though it’s not especially scholarly.
maybe my use of “since” was incorrect there, but i knew that. “starting with” would have been the correct grammar perhaps. though even when i typed “vietnam” i knew there was a chance a korea/WW2/WW1 anti war protester was suppressed. Those wars were much more popular(maybe not Korea as much) so those stories as well known.

I remember getting into an argument about the myth of Vietnam war vets getting spit on with my lib family members once. That shit is engrained deep.

Where can I learn more about this?

Thanks, comrade
I’ve found the fastest way to dispell this is point out the law passed requiring these flags to be flown over post offices is less than a decade old.

Both the UK and US profit from war so while extremely sad and infuriating it’s unfortunately not surprising.
Anti-war demonstrations were violently suppressed during Vietnam too.
