Hi, I just want to kindly ask what hygiene products to use? Preferably european and cheap, don’t care if they are advertising it to men, women, or like unisex or whatever just would like something that works. Idk where to ask, just I as a kid I kinda neglected hygiene and would like some recommendations, also this Philips oneblade was honestly worth buying for me, kinda expansive but worth it :3
Faith in Nature for hair and body products
Byoma for skincare
That’s been my combo for the last while
I use a safety razor I bought from Henson, but that might be a bit close to America and expensive :P
A friend of mine also uses a henson razor, and I got to try it out (with my own blade) a little while ago. Miles better than a cheap safety razor, but not really better than the cheap dollar store venus razors I normally use. Not sure if it’s simply because I wasn’t used to it or not tho.
Safety razor does take learning, but its also miles better for the environment than cheap plastic razors
I’ll make some general recommendations based on your picture. I mostly try to buy Canadian products though, so I won’t give any specific recommendations since you wanted European stuff.
For hair, you want separate shampoo and conditioner. A good shampoo is going to wash away everything in your hair, conditioner included, so combining them into one product is never any good. If you have wavy or curly hair, look into the curly girl technique for general hair care recommendations.
For skin care, my routine is:
- face cleanser
- exfoliant
- shave (shaving cream)
- Vitamin E cream
- moisturizer
- sunscreen
When I saw the 2-in-1 I had the same thought, lol. Another handy tool for curly haired folks is this website, Is It Curly Girl. If you’re like me and bargain shop, you’ll almost never get the same product twice. With this site you can look up a product’s ingredients, copy/paste/submit, and it checks to see if there are any of the bad/harsh ingredients (sulfates/silicones/etc). Has saved me a lot of time and money when I am shopping for hair products c:
Do you have any recommendations for Canadians? I recently moved back to Canada from the US and now that I’m trying to actively avoid buying US products I feel like I’m figuring out my routine from scratch again 😅
For hair I use AG Colour Savour, and it’s fantastic.
For skincare, most of my stuff is from Green Beaver Company. I use their cleanser, exfoliant, day cream, makeup remover, and deodorant.
Toothpaste with novamin literally helps build new tooth enamel. It’s worth getting.
what kinda hair you got? i got specific recommendations if it’s curly at all, and/or if it’s thick.
also i’ve got that exact razor and i love it, blades last me ages
Yeah, I have short hair, fluffy dense and kinda dry. Since I am growing it, it is starting to curl a bit in the ends. I found this conditioner in Müller 6.50€ was.
idk if there’s a good lemmy community for it yet, but i use the curly girl methods. there’s a pretty good scanner for products, but i can’t vouch for functionality outside the US.
deffo look up “squish to condish”, that’s essential. try “co-washing”, but if you don’t like the results then don’t even worry, that one isn’t a catch-all.
i hate to point people towards reddit, but that’s where i got most of my initial direction. they’ve got a very well established CG community. the basic advice is: find someone who looks like you want to, and follow whatever their routine is.
personally i use almost exclusively SheaMoisture products. they’re kinda pricy, but you can water the conditioner down to like 50/50, so it kinda works out.
also if you have thick hair, unfortunately you’re just gonna have to use more product. i was told “keep adding conditioner until it feels like you’re handling a bunch of worms”
I have thick curly hair and back when i kept it long i would wash out the conditioner by submerging my head underwater and shaking it loose. Then shake off like a dog and lie facing the ceiling with my head hanging off the end of the bed until it drip/air dried. It gave me volume and neat little ringlets. Of course I was convinced I was a boy so I didn’t necessarily appreciate it as much as I should have.
I have hair that is both very thick and very curly, and would like to hear your recommendations!
i threw all the advice i could think of into this comment, but if you have any questions just hit me up in this thread! ^^
Aldi body wash anyone?
No aldi here, maybe Lidl has something :3
Heh i’d bet they have the same thing but with lidl written on it instead.
I’ve tried sooo many different aluminum and baking soda free deodorants and billie is by far the best one. It’s unfortunately an American company so I was hesitant to mention them, but the deodorant is just so great and I also really appreciate the company’s mission statement. I’ve only used the coconut vanilla deodorant so far but the other scents seem to have really good reviews as well.
They also started out with just shaving products. I can’t comment on the quality of that stuff though since I don’t do much shaving other than lining up my beard with a traditional straight razor.
Edit: They apparently sell a Chia Pet that all of my friends will be receiving this upcoming holiday season
I don’t have any particular recommendations for products because I tend to cycle through whatever happens to be readily available at the time, but I have found that hair conditioner works great for shaving (especially for larger areas like legs). I’ve also found that a (not harsh) exfoliant before/after shaving can help a lot, as does moisturising the area afterwards.
I am lazy trash, so I tend to get products that are aimed at sensitive skin or are designed for the face, so then I can just use one product to moisturise my body and my face. It’s probably not ideal, but overcomplicating my hygiene stuff makes it harder for me to stick to, and this method is infinitely better than nothing
My local target pushes this body wash I get somtimes called “NATIVE”.
I feel like a tool every time I see it advertized on tv. :P
I really like sugar scrubs! Watermelon is my favorite. I do it before epilating to exfoliate but also just in general I like using them, makes the skin feel very soft.
How is the one blade? Do you use it on your legs? I’ve been looking for something to hurry that process along haha
Yeah, I do. Works great for whole body, and I don’t feel small hair anymore on my face. Works for legs too
One blade sensitive attachment is fucking amazing. Only been knicked once cause I was being extra extra careless.
Great for legs too but I got a Philips large razor meant for body hair so I can use it more regular.
Don’t forget to sanitize with alcohol every time!
Come to think of it, most of what I use is American :/ . They made importing so expensive now it’s tricky to boycott American as an American.
I did buy my safety razer from Fendrihan, which is a German company. I’ve had it for 12 years and it’s totally a buy it for life product. And I order shaving soap from the same company, the kind you lather with an old-timey brush, because it’s by far the cheapest option and I don’t like the feeling of shaving cream on my legs. That stuff lasts forever.
Good for you for boycotting American products, and best of luck finding products that work for you! The replies so far are great.
