Having enough surplus income such that I can afford to give to others

It was just titled “star wars” back then though
They don’t need to! Some want to :)
Blu-Ray is pertinent here because it is a Sony product
But they could have mentioned other formats too - would it have made the argument any better? Absolutely not, but sure, go ahead and yell at clouds

That is a valid point.

“Trans” is not a noun. Do you mean trans people? Trans women? Trans fats? Trans formers?
That thread was so ew
I’ll freely own the fact that I’m a western, white, woman and can never fully understand the cultural and greater context surrounding the choice as to why a Muslim woman, or a woman of any religion, creed, race, upbringing, etc would desire to wear a piece of clothing that would to me, with my cultural and greater context, be a symbol of my oppression.
The cool part is that I don’t have to understand why she would make such a choice, to support her right to make such a choice.
If you want to support womens rights, you can’t go around trying to restrict us. If you are concerned that women who are making these choices are doing so under indoctrination, coercion, etc, then instead channel your energy into making sure they, and all women, have safe places and resources to address those things.

If that’s the case then they’re simply making more revenue per stream and clearly users are still on board so end result is qobuz wins users win and artists win
Edit: I say this because their “artists get X amount per stream on average” value is far higher than other players in the industry

Sure but evidently it is proving to be a profitable and sustainable business model

Everything I haven’t been able to find on bandcamp has been on qobuz and vice versa - I dont use the streaming section of either but I assume the catalogues between their download store and streaming are the same. Qobuz is pretty good coverage!

They’re humble about it, but the revenue share that they pay to rights holders (which is then paid to artists) dwarfs every other big player in the streaming industry. Based qobuz.

I don’t think its fair to put the blame on stupid people when you have the best minds of the modern age finely tuning advertising and visual effects and psychological trickery to entice people into specific, addictive, behaviours
The only reason casinos try hard to keep people out is because of laws - there are no where near the same kinds of regulations about lootboxes
Anyway - we broadly agree with eachother and I think we both made our point :P

Making the game free was part of the model of the loot boxes - people are less likely to get invested in your moneymaker if they have to pay for entry to the casino
But yes. Despite being in many ways the first iteration of what cosmetic loot boxes are nowadays, they weren’t the most predatory about it

They effectively created the modern videogame lootbox, yes. However they haven’t been caught with their pants down specifically targeting children with them, unlike Epic.
Still, fuck valve for lootboxes

Their next engine has AI baked into its very core!

Why are people still using the r-slur in 2026 sigh
I just wanna feel how you describe feeling in this post :3
We’re talking about a business led by the richest person in the world who has already made it entirely clear he can buy his way to anything he desires. 30% is a tidy sum, I’d lock it in and call it a day.
