discord sucks but there isn’t a good enough replacement yet that fills the same niche. tbh i’d be happy to pay a small monthly fee that goes towards maintenance costs of an open source app that doesn’t feel the need to do all this bullshit and provides the features discord had 5 years ago, more than i’d be happy to pay for discord nitro.
If you’re on Linux Vesktop is an alternative client that strips out the bullshit. It technically breaks Discord’s T&Cs but they haven’t cared yet.
I like Matrix, but it is still a bit too janky and unrefined to recommend for general audiences.
I thought there was some other enshittification of Matrix recently also. Anyone recall?
