Why TF has this topic been around for hours and has no one posted this? Why is the drama again made more important than the substance? Don’t let the hysteria win.
Good question. Here’s the info thread about it. I’ve tested it and the app itself is functional and shows ice but I don’t know much about it. The dev seems happy to answer questions:
Permissions looks normal for what it does. App scanner shows no trackers, but it does seem to use Google Firebase and Google login apis. I didn’t install it to look at network traffic. If anyone does, I’d be curious.
It is apparently restricted to US iTunes accounts only, for some brainless reason. So a lot of people who could potentially benefit from it simply can’t.
The website offers an explanation as to why there is no Android version. Basically it’s because Android would require them to maintain a database of Android users, which is a security issue if it gets confiscated by the government. They call those privacy concerns “non-negotiable,” and suggest Android users but a cheap old iPhone model to use the app.
This way, the database of users is maintained by Apple, which is much more secure against Trump. /s
Apparently the dev is an Apple fanboy and does not understand Android. You can do the exact same thing on Android as you did on Apple, except the data would still be with Google.
It’s about this app: https://www.iceblock.app/. Download it, use it.

Here’s an ice tracking app for Android called F.I.R.E I saw in a recent reddit post
https://fire-app.net/screens/downloads.html
Can you tell us anything more about the app? How safe is it? Is there a discussion anywhere about it? Thank you.

Thank you so much for that response! I’ll check it out.

The fact it’s not available on f-droid makes me think it’s a honeypot.
Apple only, no website, is suspect af for an app that requires maximum privacy.
EDIT: maybe just incompetent devs, which is just as bad as the end result will be equivalent to a honeypot.

The apk could be released outside of Google and its policies. They could even open source it.
Even with an iPhone it is inaccessible without a US account.
