Politicians pulling shit like this, this cheating , should quite literally be tarred and feathered and be put on in a no-government-hire list for life.

A document from Lee states that his “amended proposal dramatically narrows the scope of lands to be sold for housing… in communities where it is desperately needed” in the U.S. West.

Hey, here’s a thought. Maybe instead of letting corporations rape what’s left of America’s wilderness, we instead ban those corporations and investment funds from buying up homes to use as rental properties. Do that, and we’ll have plenty of homes for everyone, I think, and no one will have to suffer.

Best we can do is some stern disapproving looks. If you get enough support, though, we can form a committee to look into the issue, determine that it is indeed a genuine problem, and then decide not to do anything about it.

Why does it have one big bill at all? Is the American legal system incapable of splitting those bills into reasonable parts?

there’s a crazy ass loophole where once a year they can pass one bill (with anything in it) with a smaller majority as long as they say it’s for budget reconciliation purposes.

both sides have been shoehorning things into this process that don’t belong for years, and now that the rails are off the current admin is really making hay.

I agree that the process of shoehorning everything into one big bill is crazy, but it wouldn’t be as big of an issue without the filibuster. Then it would be possible to pass non-budget bills with a simple majority (50 votes) instead of needing a supermajority (60 votes) for everything.

And the filibuster wouldn’t be as big of a deal if they were required to actually filibuster. For a while now, they’ve only needed to send an email stating that they were filibustering. This would also probably force some senators who have no business making laws that they won’t be alive to see the consequences of to retire. For example, there’s no way that McConnell has been physically capable of a filibuster for the last decade at least - he should be enjoying retirement (as much as one can wish him well), not enjoying causing harm to current and future generations.

Absolutely. I want to keep the filibuster, but I want them to have to stand and talk the whole time. Cloture could still stop it. It would show who is really committed to a cause and who is just doing whatever is politically expedient.

Indeed! Would be necessary to ensure that it walks a line that is not ableist, while still preventing obstructionists from having undemocratic power to kill legislation with a “nuh-uh”.

That’s a very good point that I hadn’t considered. I’m not sure what to do to provide necessary modifications fairly without favoring folks who are 9000 years old due to being cursed by a witch, but I’m sure someone out there has a good idea.

Mormon raiders and bandits did try to claim the areas from the territory surrounding Utah back in the day. Would not put it past them to try that shit again, the proper response to militaristic cultists is to shoot them.

He is 100% a gun nut (although probably the only genuinely universal second amendment guy out there) but Karl over at InRange actually has a ridiculously good video that should be spread to all the right wing loonies in your life:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nppYglaJKa0

Yes, there is a lot of "great’ stuff for the fascists and isn’t it great to repeal all those nasty gun laws? And… we can argue about that later.

Selling off all the public and BLM land? Great, you can now put a silencer on your gatling gun you bought at Walmart. Where are you going to use it? You can now hunt deer with your Barrett but there is nowhere left for you to go hunting. And so forth.

Looking at the linked map, the raped states are:

      • New Mexico
      • Colorado
      • Wyoming
      • Montana
      • Idaho
      • Utah
      • Arizona
      • Nevada
      • California
      • Oregon
      • Washington

If these 11 states were to secede, they would have a fiscal advantage because many of them give billions of dollars more in federal funding than the non-donor states receive.

They would also take with them all access to West Coast ports, as well as all western USA water rights including the Columbia River and the Colorado River. Of course, Mike Lee would need to be ejected. Preferably from a canon.

    What a rotten human being.
