    God I hate most fantasy western works so much ,crazy that Japan of all places has more digestible fantasy stories in manga form than the west does

    I disagree that Lord of the rings is NOT reactionary ,I do agree however that it’s not THAT reactionary and is a product of it’s time

      What ‘product of it’s time’ elements would you say are there? Cause he was going for something that felt like a product of several hundred years before its time. Products of the time were stuff like Steinbeck, who is great too but he was intentionally archaic. Dude was just trying to make his own Beowulf. There are reactionary elements for sure but id argue theyre not a product of the times they were written but the times they were intended to be ‘translated’ from. And even then id say his shit is pretty woke if you bother to really look into it. Lord of the Rings alone, especially for those who don’t bother to read the appendices could lend to a weird impression of Tolkien’s world.
