Playing through MGS V, I fucking love this series and this game but ngl, I can’t help but think so much of MGS is nonsense, which I’m totally fine with.
But I haven’t really done a deep dive into the story or it’s commentary, so it’d be cool if someone more uhh analytically inclined could explain this shit to me if it’s worth explaining.
Edit: really cool to play in Afghanistan, not cool to be killing Soviet soldiers
Despite the hexbearian poster line, MGS is very lib. MGS1 was more of a tropey bondian military action movie of that time, so its fairly antimilitary industrial complex and le evil russians want to do the soviet union again. MGS2 is post-modern and very much concerned with the bush-led information age distortion of truth, yet it also lacks an fundamental analysis of material forces. MGS3 is extremely both sides and Khrushchev being a traitor is actually portrayed as a good thing - the enemies are hardline soviets and the lalilelolu. The Boss is portrayed as a victimized because the us government didnt do bay of pigs. Not to mention that it makes stalin, mao and lenin into illuminati members alongside american presidents. MGS4 is slop. MGS5 is goon slop.
