Nah, this was a concession both Democrats and Senate Republicans were asking for. They hope to have a full budget deal finished before a new administration so there’s a clean slate for either incoming president

The article says the focus is on kid-friendly outdoor areas like parks and near schools, which makes total sense as a place to start. Doesn’t seem like it’s everywhere outside being banned. And generally encouraging people to not take up smoking in the first place is wonderful. For people who smoke, quitting is the biggest thing they can do to improve their health.
Kroger and Albertsons own a ton of “other grocery chains.” Classic example of just simply buying up the competition
I echo the other commenter and recommend speaking with a “registered dietician” (RD degree) about your personal nutrition goals.
Calories in/out, physical activity levels, and genetics are three of the biggest factors with blood cholesterol levels. Would you overall eat fewer calories if you switched to low fat dairy? Maybe then it’s a decent strategy for you.
Harvard’s Nutrition Source is a great educational resource about nutrition that is science based and uses accessible language.
Am I missing something? There is nothing new in the article. It’s just contrasting Harris’ Senate record and 2020 primary stances with the pragmatic political compromises that the Biden-Harris administration has made over the past 3.5 years because they had to deal with getting things through Congress. Of course the compromises made with Congress are going to be more to the right than what Harris has previously advocated for as her ideal stances, that’s what politics is…
Easy, buy up a bunch of land for conservation
I get this post is a joke, but PSA in case anybody is considering this new tide pod challenge… Swallowing batteries will fuck your shit up in life altering ways.
Already has been. The “slow down” in EV sales is almost entirely from Tesla and I’d guess a lot of that is from how disliked he is by the main demographic of people buying EVs
The Ioniqs have much smaller screens than the EV industry average, and many more physical buttons than industry average. The only time I really touch the touch screen is related to the Android Auto GPS/Google Maps, or very rarely I’m fiddling with a setting in my driveway.
There is a noticeable difference in EVs with AWD vs FWD, because the drive wheels all have independent motors. More motors= more power. As other commenters said, the main other consideration is if you have snow.
We’ve really enjoyed our Hyundai Ioniq 5 crossover SUV. It has a ton of leg room (I’m 6’2" and can fully stretch out my legs), 300 miles of range, and more acceleration than any car I’ve ever owned. The cost of charging at home is about 70% less than we were paying for gas, plus there’s almost no maintenance needed (e.g. there’s no oil to change). With super chargers on road trips Hyundai and Kia EVs can charge from 10%-80% in about 15 mins for slightly less than the cost of gas.
QuantumScape is currently building the mass production line for a solid state battery and has been sending prototypes out to their auto manufacturer clients for testing.
This Undecided with Matt Ferrell video has a good breakdown.
Disclosure: I own 100 shares of QS
It’s hard, but there are more adults in the U.S. alive today who have successfully quit smoking than currently smoke.

It’s mostly about the dose of carcinogens. THC is far less addictive than nicotine, so on average people who exclusively use cannabis inhale less smoke than people who smoke tobacco. A pack a day of cigarettes is a very common amount for people who smoke tobacco. That’s 20 cigarettes, or 14-16 grams of tobacco a day. Few people who exclusively use cannabis are smoking 14grams/half oz a day.
There are two other major factors limiting our knowledge of the health impacts of cannabis smoking: 1) it remains federally illegal and therefore hard to get research funding. 2) a large proportion of the studies over the past several decades with people who smoked cannabis were confounded by many of the participants also smoking tobacco
TLDR: it’s not great to inhale smoke of any kind, as it does contain an abundance of carcinogens.
The majority of carcinogens from smoking tobacco are created by burning the plant fibers. Quitting smoking is the number thing someone who smokes can do to improve their health. Vaping exposes individuals to fewer carcinogens than smoking, but still has the negative health impacts of nicotine alone on heart and mental health and still some carcinogen exposure.

I say outdoors. Indoors has a vibe of being human made to me, and a low likelihood of encountering wildlife. So I guess walking around a mine is indoor cave exploration

The tobacco companies? Telling lies? Why I never!
What’s next, Kellogg shouldn’t be advertising sugar for breakfast for kids?
Thanks! This is the closest thing I’ve seen on Lemmy to an r/AskHistorians thread, wish we had more of that
