The best advice I got was to periodically delete your current account and create a new one. Then remove any association you have with the old account: history, password managers, etc. Yes, that accounts comments may live on for ever in some archive, but removing your association with it goes a long way towards plausible deniability. If your super paranoid only access Lemmy through tor going forward.

In my highschool programming class we made a TSR (in Borland pascal) that would change every 15th keypress to an “e”. It wasn’t self propagating, so it wasn’t a virus per day, but it was highly annoying. It survived on memory after the netware logoff, and you could only get rid of it by rebooting.

We also had these everex brand 286 or 386 computers… They had a little LCD screen that would read out what sector/track was being read on the disk. We found the memory address (80h) where we could write arbitrary text to the LCD. That was fun.

Afaik the presidential powers to enact tariffs is limited. Congress is in charge of the budget and are the only ones allowed to set permanent tariffs. He is only getting away with what he is doing because he keeps making up phony emergency reasons why we need them, i.e. the bogus Canadian fentanyl story. The idiots in Congress have already given up so many of their duties to the executive branch it’s doubtful they can recapture them. Until members of Congress decide to call him out on his bullshit he will keep getting away with it despite what any of them say publicly… And we all know that his boot lickers will never do that.

Have you watched the news in the US in the time period since the original post? Has any news media even mentioned this? A post on mastodon is great. I would venture that 99% of the population from the US doesn’t use Mastodon, tho I don’t really know for sure the numbers . Of the percentage that do, how many are going to see this person’s post?

Probably not. Sooner rather than later most free press will be shut down by trump and the only news that anyone will get is whatever there government wants you to hear. Stories like this will disappear.

My point (i.e. the “high hopes” part) is that this sounds legit and awesome. I do my best to be an optimist, but I have been burned way to many times to not concede that there may be ulterior motivation afoot.

I have high hopes but my logical side says they can just be pandering like any of the other politicians: they know people support it, they know it will fail. They look good for backing it even tho they aren’t worried about changing the status quo either

Sounds cool but most of the folding phones I have seen are as thick as 2 phones stacked when folded. If this is now 3 phones thick I think it looses some portability unless you put new pockets on your pants.

Something similar happend to me in Connecticut. Some underaged kid driving her father’s SUV backed into my car in a parking lot. She got out, apologized. I took a picture of her, the car and the license plate. She apologized to me and called her father who told her to get back in and drive home. It took the police 6 hours to respond, finally around 2am. They took the details and looked up the vehicle which had expired insurance. They went to the owners house, found the vehicle and knocked on the door. When no one answered (at 3am) they gave up, closed the case and told me to take it up with my insurance because they were understaffed. My insurance company tried using them for 6 months but eventually gave up as well as the police basically refused to help with anything other then the report.

Tbf Google’s AI will hallucinate and out and out lie to you depending on what question you ask it, so maybe it isn’t the best source. I agree it amazes me that people can lie like this and not be checked for questioned… And Google use to be the best way to check. Unfortunately it isn’t any more. And various news sites have their own agenda and won’t always tell you the truth either. Unfortunately I dont know of any source you can quickly check and get a definitive and unequivocal answer any more and I think people like trump understand and exploit this.

I don’t excuse the media for not talking about this, but I also don’t think it would matter if they put it on a 24 hour news cycle and shouted it from the rooftops. Or if they used the emergency broadcast system to send the story directly to every phone owning American. The cult of trump just doesn’t care. My (ugg) Facebook feed is full of people saying that felony’s don’t matter when it cost them some extra cash to buy groceries. I see people almost daily wearing clothing proclaiming they are voting for the felon. They just do not care about what ever he has done.
