I don’t see this as a replacement for the STEM-lords on H-1B’s since I think China will be more stringent on who they let in (high qualifications, higher education level etc.). H-1B’s are more for flooding the market with tech workers in the US to keep wages down and keep middle class labor exploitable. But that is just my speculation.

Made me realize, the nuclear family is a failed concept under capitalism. When every facet of raising children is commodified, the working class is going to just stop having children. Though I also think there is a psychological factor to it too, with the alienation under capitalism making one question what is the purpose of bring a child into this world. And yet all of this is necessary for capitalism to reproduce itself, which is a huge contradiction that is only alleviated a bit by immigration.

Feel like I had a breakthrough with my politically-incoherent-but-probably-right-wing uncle when I told him there is a link between rising rents/housing prices because of big corp employees moving into cities and homelessness. He believed that homelessness was just a function of how much aid the government gives them. I am reminded that not everyone who isn’t leftist is a bad faith actor and can be genuinely curious on the causes of the ills in society. Still, there’s a ton more deprogramming that needs to be done and I don’t have time for it, but if felt good to open someone’s mind a bit more.
