The Populous cursor was just magic to me as a kid. The menu items throwing a shadow from the glow of the cursor. Sooo cool.
Oh shit, loved populous! (The demo. Played it over and over for months.) The terraforming shaman and villagers who might catch their butts on fire and run around like cartoons was great.
Or you get into a fight with another shaman and they just blast you with a fireball just right to make the physics bug out – or maybe it was a feature – and make your shaman get yeeted to the whole other side of the island. Amazin!
I still love the Diablo 2 cursor. Honestly, I kinda wanna try to take the UI of old and well-loved games and make KDE themes out of them.
I should do that. I mean, I’m a decent artist, and I’m getting better at programming. I think it’d be a great use of my time.
