joined bluesky to stay in touch with a friend
I’ve never understood Twitter, but I think I’m starting to understand
getting pulled in kinda makes me feel like I should be on mastodon primarily instead, so I was wondering what the “Blahaj” of Mastodon is, what server should I join?
As others have mentioned, the blahaj.zone Sharkey might be what you want, but I’ll give a couple pointers in case you want something else (or someone reading this does).
You can join any fediverse instance as they are mostly compatible with each other. Join a small instance with good moderation based on what you like. It might not be easy to decide what the best instance for you is, which is kinda a downside of the fediverse, but look around. I joined floss.social because I’m a programmer, they have a user cap, and their moderation is great. While I don’t browse local posts much, it’s good to see fellow people with similar interests posting about things I like, all with no algorithm.
Well, there is blahaj.zone (without the “lemmy” part) and it uses Sharkey, which is similar to (apparently, haven’t used it) and compatible with Mastodon (it’s on the Fediverse as well).
basically, I don’t know if blahaj.zone has a Mastodon instance but the Sharkey instance is the closest one to being Mastodon, and possibly better in many ways, and serves the same microblogging functionality
this is brilliant, thank you!
do you know if there is an android client that works with Sharkey, or is it web UI only?
EDIT: I see Sharkey implements the Mastodon API, so does that mean you can use Mastodon android apps with it? 🤔
i think you can use sharkey with mastodon apps, yes!
however, you’re not gonna get any sharkey-exclusive features on the app, since it’s an app made for mastodon
I found Sharkey to be a lot. Couldn’t wrap my head around it. Maybe I’m just getting old.
Mastodon and similar are fantastic.
They don’t even have to be anything complicated to be awesome, just having Mastodon and other microblogging services as a basis for orienting people on the Fediverse is an underappreciated gem we should be thankful for whether you spend most of your time on reddit-likes or twitter-likes here on the Fediverse.
The format has so much more potential than twitter/x has explored.
2 cents, jorts.horse is nice
