According to the United States Code, which has a special section for commemorative coins: “No coin issued under this subsection may bear the image of a living former or current President, or of any deceased former President during the 2-year period following the date of the death of that President.”

Vice presidents are technically elected.
They originally were directly elected as presidents by the electoral college (which is a completely different problem we need to address), whoever was the runner up, became vice president. However, after the 12th amendment they are elected as vice president by the electoral college.
I think it would be interesting to allow voting for the vp separately on the ballot, but only if it’s popular vote, which should be happening for President as well.
