I am guessing Germany (or at least EU) based on the post location, but if you found this in the USA they are invasive so you should report finding one.

You are right that they are invasive here, but my understanding is that they are currently not considered an ecological threat in my area (they are basically just replacing a similar orb weaver that lives here).
I could be wrong though, maybe I’ll have my friend call up his local UGA extension office.
Oh and yes, the web was over a 1m, almost a cube with a bunch of other spiders hanging out as well!
I hope they aren’t replacing orb weavers. Those beauties are smaller than she is, but they will weave perfect huge webs in a spot that doesn’t interfere with you at all for years at a time. IME it takes breaking some test lines a few times before the golden orb weaver will understand not to try to trap humans, but once that has been communicated they just eat all the flying pests that one really doesn’t want around.
