Please just switch to a Linux distribution of your choice.
Sure. Whip up a wife-compliant DYMO label printer interface that works seamlessly with popular sales platforms and I can make the shipping computer Linux TOMORROW. I’d love it.
We’re going to move to using her MacBook for this shit and just set up a docking station that she can use without fuckery.
DYMO label printer

bloody hell Dymo :\
I tried, I really did.
hey that’s all you can do! Effort is what counts. I blame Dymo on this one
I think we all blame Dymo on this one!
And there really is no substitute. DYMO is like the Photoshop of easily printing labels for a garage business to ship shit.
Have you tried looking at Zebra printers? For what I can see they have CUPS drivers, and some (lib)reddit posts talk about working well (depending on model specifics of course).
I did use Zebra 20+ years ago to print labels (in Windows). Finnicky to set up margins etc at the beginning (also because it was the first time I saw one) but then workhorses.
Good luck!
As it happens, I do write software for a living. Those are not the requirements of software one just ‘whips up’.
With that said, you can’t be the only one with those needs. You could possibly defray costs by reaching out to others in similar circumstances and collectively fund development of the software you require.
And / or get in touch with DYMO and sound them out on getting in on the action perhaps?
Yeah, or I could just have her use the macbook she already owns and likes
One guy has a highly specific technical requirement: checkmate Linux!
Well, I love Linux and have used Debian for decades. But… in this use case the windows 10 computer is going to be a boat anchor because Linux doesn’t work in this one highly specific situation and I think it’s bullshit. Thanks MS
Something like this?
bruh, like I didn’t find the top google result?
WIFE-COMPLIANT is the main requirement. She is not a user like you and me.
Plus, has to work with Etsy and Ebay and Shopify. Seamlessly.
“Oh my mistake. Thought you said wifi compliant.”
heh
Do you have a specific GUI design in mind? If all you have to do is connect buttons to terminal commands and adding some menu options for specific parameters to those commands, that’s probably a weekend’s worth of work with some simple graphics/form library.
The seamlessness to certain platforms might a bit bigger of a hurdle, but surely they also have some API. What kind of features would be required in the seamless integration with said platforms? I have never used a label printer so I don’t really know much about what features are needed, but at the very least I can start a GitLab repository and create a core.
tl;dr One more year of unconditional security updates if you are in the european economic zone. After October 13th, 2026, you gotta pay.
While I still think moving away from Windows is a good idea, props to Europe! See, that’s what states laws and regulations can do for their people!
Yo ho ho!
