It’s one of the most beautiful places I visited – when I stayed there the first time in a hotel within the city itself for a couple of days. My second visit as a day tourist was – well, a lot more Disneylandesque and only bearable because we had learned how to stay outside tourist hell.
I really don’t understand why people travel to Venice. I think it would be my personal tourist hell.
Outside of peak season it can be beautiful. It still holds historical significance and has some incredibly well preserved architecture.
I wouldn’t dream of visiting in peak season though!

It’s actually a very unique city worth visiting. It’s just become crushed to death by tourists like many national parks, galleries, destinations, etc.
I don’t doubt it is a beautiful city. The mass tourism is the reason I would never visit.
