The Irish state broadcaster RTÉ has said it will not take part in the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest “if the participation of Israel goes ahead”.

    The contest has never been a strictly European one, despite the name. Morocco has entered before, the rest of the North African countries are eligible, and the Caucasian countries are regular entrants. There are good reasons to kick Israel out but geography definitely isn’t one of them

      Well, in theory yes it is geographically equal. Fact is after Israel participated 47 times it feels more like a premium member, at least in comparison with other non-european countries.
