Don’t confuse education with intelligence. Some of the smartest people I’ve met are the dumbest motherfuckers outside of their specific knowledge domains. I still laugh about the PhD who bitched me out in front of his class because he couldn’t figure out how to turn a computer on.
Surgeons apparently have a reputation for being kind of stupid. Their main qualification is physical, since they have to have incredibly steady hands. I’d rather have a moron who won’t slip cutting into my brain than a genius who will.
Aside from that, though, Engineer Syndrome is definitely a thing. I suspect it’s part of why programmers aren’t unionized basically anywhere.
