Left: last photograph of Karl Marx, taken by E. Dutertre in Algiers, on 28 April 1882. Right: a photomontage-based upon Marx’s own correspondence, where he said that the photo was taken just a short while before he went to the barber to have his hair cut and his beard shaved off, and shows how he may have looked after his visit to the barber.
I have a Marx-like beard. Now I wonder if I should never shave it off. Within a year after his trim - he died. And mustaches aren’t my thing anyway.

The Communist Samson !
if we want communism to survive we must bury the right image and all collectively agree to never mention its existence again to anybody
This picture always makes me sad because it was taken about 6 months after his wife Jenny had died. He got really sick with bronchitis so a doctor told him to stay in Algeria for a while to escape how shitty England was.
Reminds me of how Chopin went to Mallorca for his tuberculosis but he (or whoever made the decision) picked literally the worst place in the island (a village in the mountains). I get that the coast is humid, but so is actually the entire island.

It definitely seems wrong to look at the guy without the full beard. He seems naked.
Welp, that settles it, never shaving my beard or cutting my hair again.
I dunno, I think he looks kinda cute without the beard
I always wondered what Thomas Edison might look like with a badly cropped head of Marx superimposed over his own face.
