It really makes a lot more sense if you consider that a lot of anime fans are AFAB. “Weeb” feels like a very gendered word to me, but is there really such a big difference between male and female anime fans?
I havent done a linguistic survey I admit, but at least in my experience ‘weeb’ is a gender neutral term and the anime fandomis at most slightly skewed towards male fans (fascinating article btw). In short yeah there are differences between the genders, but they mostly differ between media targeted at one gender or another (Military Drama vs. Gay Vampire Romance, for example. Stereotypes go brrrr.)
