The policy says that ICE field offices are not subject to a federal law that allows members of Congress to make unannounced oversight visits to immigration facilities that “detain or otherwise house aliens.”

In short, ICE policy is to illegally use the threat of shooting to keep elected Democrats from being able to make inspections they’re legally allowed to make

Which means, for all intents and purposes, what they’re doing is de-facto legal.

Your post is right on everything, but I’ll note that what it means is we live in a de-facto lawless state.

Agreed. This doesn’t mean it’s legal. It means we don’t have laws, we have fascism.

Yet again it’s Congress that has to act, Congress that is giving up their authority without a fight. This policy does not affect pretty much any of us. If only there were Congress people demanding transparency, accountability, human rights, it would affect them. They’re not only the ones affected, they’re the ones who can say “LoL, no”

US Congress people are among the most powerful elected officials in the effing world, or they were. I don’t know why they prefer to settle for just going along, while bickering endlessly while favoring their corporate masters. wtf, stand up like you always claim. And no, standing up against a high school athlete is not a substitute for standing up for your constituents, your society, your own goddam list for power which somehow doesn’t matter anymore
