Conservativism has always been about protecting traditions and hierarchy. The term has poltical origins from people that wanted to reestablish the french monarchy after the revolution.
That was the original meaning. Eventually, it evolved into “some change is inevitable and desired, but we’d like to do it gradually while preserving most traditions”.

Sounds more like classical liberialism where they oppose social policies outside of “natural economics” pressures.
