I was just informed of the existence of Buckees yesterday. It seems like a real world nightmare.
It was surreal. I got bucees morale patches though so
I went there once. I had the beaver nuggets. It tasted like I was eating a piece of puffed corn that had been soaked in
maple syrupcorn syrup. 7.1/10.They have surprisingly good coffee there too.
The only place that always feels like it’s Black Friday
I made the kind of funny one liner about this being a “shrine to the petrodollar” when we stopped there on a road trip. They’re nice but gd you got people talking about this place like it’s a sacrosanct ritual to pull in there with your family.
I actually kind of love Bucees. Stopping there in the middle of a long ass road trip, using the always clean bathrooms and actually getting some decent food is enjoyable actually.
I don’t get the hype about this place. It’s a fucking gas station with more food and shit to buy than most but people rant and rave about it. I see bucees merch all over town and the nearest one is 30 minutes away. Just why, we’ve got sheetz in town it’s the same slop lol
Its slop but large scale and with a mascot. Never liked it but I also have always hated car dependant suburbia so I think that’s part of why I don’t enjoy the slop
convenience stores that have their own merch crack me up. for me it’s definitely ironic and quasi nostalgia, so buccee’s doesn’t do it for me.
but like the shitty 7-11 near my parents’ house started selling 7-11 tshirts and I told my sister that it was all I wanted for Xmas. some t-shirt that just said 7-11 on it.
if Flying J had tshirts I would get one of those too. there’s something so absurd about a T-shirt that just has a corporate logo for a place most people only begrudgingly patronize because our communities were built stupid.
Kept passing those by. It was always after I had just topped off the gas tank and got snacks. Frustrating, really.
Most y’all aren’t from the south and frankly it’s adorable.
Update: I stopped at Bucky’s today and I kinda get it. Wisconsin has Kwik Trip, other parts of the Midwest and the South have Sheetz. If you just spent the better part of 4 hours driving through Ohio or Indiana, it’s a genuine reprieve.
Wawa is about the only thing that compares to the cult status of this. Bucees is much more than a Wawa but Wawa is more like what 711 wishes it was in terms of convenience and quality.
