Hey there,
this is a deck I’ve been playing with and enjoying in standard quite a bit and wanted to share (although it’s not gonna survive rotation).

The concept of the deck could probably be summarized as “what deck would actually want to play the uncommon one maa cactuar from FF”. And my answer was basically to synergize around ETB/cast triggers with Tribute to the Wold Tree as the centerpiece of the deck. It’s definitely an “against the odds” style deck, but I still think it’s reasonably competitive.

This is awesome! I love the gameplay videos and I love that you were running this in mythic too.

I think you unfortunately are right, it definitely seems that Tribute to the World tree is too essential here to lose it. I never actually saw that card before now. Crazy to me that Tribute was never successfully built around, but standard must be too fast or too powerful for any 3 mana cards without ETBs that need something else to generate the value. Which is a huge shame.

I was curious – how did you find this before and after the bans? It seems like you would eat mono red alive but what was the gameplay/success like when Monstrous Rage and Heartfire Hero were being played?

Hey, thanks for the comment and checking out the vids.

Right now I’d say the deck is strongly favoured against mono red, before the bans I would say it might still have been even to slightly favoured. I feel like Izzet cutter matchup wasn’t too hopeless either actually, at least until people eventually figured out they could just maindeck as many vivis as they want.

Right now I’d say it probably does best against mono r and the yuna/domain decks and the toughest matchup seems to be the UB Kaito deck, especially pre sideboard.

Edit: Overall, I feel like the deck might have actually performed the same/possibly a bit better pre bans, simply because the metagame was a bit more in its favour. Although standard is definitely a lot more fun to play now. Also, I did actually also use the deck to get to mythic as well. I’m a f2p player and this is probably my strongest deck atm. ^^
